Not even close for Chicago. No offense, but that’s legitimately a terrible offer.

That’s fine, that’s why it’s being thrown out to 3 teams. No worries.

Think about this logically, why would a team retain for a nothing return. If nothing else you are asking teams to pay a part of these guys' salaries.

Janmark more than the rest has value. I suspect without retention he's costing a third ish

Don’t really see a point in these moves. The canes don’t need to make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. Janmark is the only player who I would have interest in and you are not getting him retained for a 7th

At the very least...eating $1.1M in cap is a 5th rounder. There's at least a history to a 5th round pick. TOR ate $1.1M last year of Lehner's contract for a 5th and a prospect. I'd argue that TOR has tons of money so any other team would require more, but hey. It's all good.

Id rather just keep helm than pay him to play somewhere else for free. I get it with helm and sheehan but janmark is worth like a 4th or 5th rounder to someone

Like many of these posts, GM’s aren’t gonna trade guys to get something instead of nothing. Most of these guys are more valuable to their teams playing and developing the young guys than a late 7th round pick you get by retaining.

As an example, the ‘retained cap hit’ of 50% is not $1.125M and 1.925M for DH and MJ. The retaining team has already paid a vast majority of their daily accumulated cap hits. Here would be the actual amounts;

Janmark - $2.25M AAV, $1.67M already consumed. 582k remaining, 50% retained is $291k.

Helm - $3.85M AAV, $2.85M already consumed. $1M remaining, 50% retained is $500 k.

These numbers are going down by the day, and would be less even on Monday.

Helm, WITH retention, on an expiring deal, is worth a LOT more than a conditional 7th. Start at a 4th and work your way up from there.

Then we move onto Sheahan from Buffalo. If no, then it’s all good.

1st, You're correct. At least for my comment, I was comparing another TDL deal and just assumed equal/equal because Lehner's $1.1M cap hit would have consumed "X" amount as well. BUT, you are correct. IMO it's still apples/apples because they're both TDL deals.

It’s all good. If DET CHI or BUF do not want to make a trade it’s all good. Lorentz and Geekie have been ample depth up to now.

That's fair. FWIW, I don't think you guys should give up much for that role, but that also doesn't lower our selling price.

We agree, that’s why the post is about shopping in the clearance section. If there isn’t anything there - then we press forward with what we have.

Teams aren't giving you dudes for free. Even if the dollars are small. So Detroit buys a half million dollar lottery ticket for a 7th rounder. Pass

Sure but why would Detroit have any interest in paying $500 k for potentially no reward. You offered a conditional 7th. You need to offer SOMETHING for that.

The Leafs last year retained a few hundred thousands on Lehner when he was moved to Vegas, they got a 5th for that. You're offering essentially nothing wiht a conditional 7th

Sure - just thought maybe Detroit would do a solid for Helm and actually give him a shot at a cup. Doesn’t really matter to me.

$500k is the cap hit, $375k would be the actual salary if trade occurred today. Either way, it’s all good.
