That doesn't come close to landing Vilardi.

Brendan Lemieux is horrible.

This is how he compares to Colton Sceviour. At least Sceviour gives you something defensively.

The Kings don't want Pettersson, and Vilardi won't be moved until Turcotte and Byfield are with the team. So Kings decline.

Even then I wouldn’t move him. One of those three guys can easily be put on the wing.

Absolutely agree. Pettersson is not an asset the Kings are interested in, the Penguins will have to pay the Kings if they want to move him with how he is trending.

I don't agree that he's a negative value asset, but the Kings wouldn't be able to protect him in the expansion draft. There's no for them to give up anything of value for him.

In this case, it is not. LA isn't going to give up anything of value for Petterson, because they'd just lose him to Seattle in the expansion draft. If Pittsburgh wants to rid themselves of his contract in exchange for a 4th round pick or something, then LA might be interested.

With regard to Pettersson: LA is going to protect Doughty, Roy and Walker in the expansion draft, because all three have greater value than MP when you factor in their contract terms with their current on-ice performance. So Pettersson is the odd man out to begin with. And if LA for some reason might consider going 8 and 1 and protecting MP, then that means exposing 3 young forwards like Trevor Moore or Andreas Athanasiou or Austin Wagner or Blake Lizotte or Carl Grundstrom, any and all of whom could turn out to be better role players for their cost than Pettersson.

As to Vilardi, LA wouldn't consider trading him unless John Marino was involved.

I am not high on Pettersson, that is a sharp drop early in his career with a long-term contract, that is too much risk for my taste. This paired with the availability of better assets in the free agency makes (and the expansion draft as you mentioned) for zero reason the Kings should move assets to attain Pettersson.

I agree, I don't think he fills any gaps for LA. I just don't think Pittsburgh would need to pay to move him. They could flip him for a mid-round pick, or retain a bit of salary and get a decent return for him if they were so inclined. It just won't be to the Kings.

Agreed, but I consider the Penguins retaining as another team as a payment to take him on. Though this is all a moot point right now, Hextall can expose him to Seattle first before looking for any moves if he doesn't see him with the team long term.
