Isles decline. They can’t afford Hughes. Can you take Andrew Ladd and Thomas Hickey? And take Komorav for fun?

First off you gotta trade Quinn to NJ
Secondly toews has been a top 10 dman this season as well as they traded 2 2nds to acquire him so that wouldn’t go through avs prolly pay Seattle to take graces

Normally yeah. But his team is losing a defenceman to Seattle no matter what and every team will know this. Try to leverage that and pay more than what others would. I doubt anyone is giving up 2 seconds for him this summer. Or Sakic will be paying some kind of premium to get Seattle to take someone else.

I looked at New Jersey first, wasn't easy finding a trade there.

They have multiple picks and top prospects, could do something like NYIs 1st this year, a 2nd and mukmadulin

I've never heard of Mukmadulin before a quick little research trip, but looks like he could be an option down the road. Just not an NHL ready option.

So you think COL will sell Toews for pennies on the dollar and then also lose another player to Seattle? Thats the worst possible outcome for the Avs. Not to mention Toews wouldnt even be the one going, it would be Graves if anything. EJ can either waive his NMC or be bought out cause Sakic will make sure Makar, Girard, and Toews are all staying long term. SEA can take one of Graves/Donskoi/Compher/Francouz and move on

If you set your sights on Graves for a 2nd then maybe. The Avs will bend over whichever way Seattle wants them to in order to keep Toews though (not exaggerating here).

Fair enough, switch that up to Graves for a third.

Nope. If they move Graves then they lose someone else in the expansion draft. Pay fair value or find a d man somewhere else

See, I think a third is more than fair value. They stole Schmidt for a third last summer and Schmidt is a better defenseman.

Schmidt is also paid nearly 6M and VGK needed to clear cap (which was very hard to do last offseason), now teams are more prepared for the flat cap and with the expansion draft many teams will have more cap space available this summer

You realize that you could just keep Hughes and not sign Hamilton right?

But I doubt Seattle is taking Myers off your plate though I suppose they may.

yeah you could do that, or you could use the assets you get from trading him to plug holes and then use the space to sign Hamilton.

And yeah Seattle might not take Myers if we give them a first rounder to take him for the expansion draft. But you gotta shoot your shot. Maybe they do?

Bro you are out there. Just for the sake of argument the Avs were going to expose Toews won’t happen but let’s just say, you think Vancouver is the highest offer for top pairing dman making less than $5M for the next 3 years with a 2nd rd pick? That’s funny I bet there is no less than 10 team that offer a 1st +. But that’s not going to happen because Toews is going to get protected because EJ NMC isn’t a factor. Now you think Graves will net you a 3rd lol. COL will just let Graves get picked and be done with it. If VAN wants Graves then they have to make it worth it to COL to lose Graves AND another player.
