Description
Overall I think trading Leddy is going to be an unfortunate reality of this offseason. He's having his best year as an Islander, but better to sell high before a regression rather than be in a ****ty cap situation/lose him for nothing to Seattle. Ottawa has the space and is probably looking to compete for a playoff spot next year with an already decent defense core that Leddy would bolster big time. Would be a nice mentor figure for Sanderson and Brannstrom as well.

This probably means that Seattle takes either Bellows or Mayfield. I'd bet on Bellows, I think he has more upside and is younger, but if they do take Mayfield the Islanders have a little bit of freed up cap to bring in a Del Zotto/Jordie Benn type to replace him.

With the cap freed up cap from the Leddy move, the Islanders can comfortably get Zeeker resigned to around the same deal he has now. He seems to really like where he is, so I don't think he takes a deal to move out of town unless its a MASSIVE overpay, which I don't think teams will do in this market.

The Ladd contact is buyout proof, but the Komarov deal only has a year left and would help the Islanders bring back some valuable RFAs in Beau, Pelech and Sorokin (the prices might be a little off for some of these, lmk!). Also lets you bring back Dal Colle, who I think is starting to show some upside and I don't think you can really get much of an upgrade on the market for the price.

And lastly... maybe a hot take, but I think the buzz around Bolduc is real. Has looked really legit in Bridgeport and in the QMJ, think he fights for a roster spot with Hickey/Aho. Golyshev might get a shot too.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Nick Leddy isn't the type of Dman Ottawa needs to add.

This is a good post, nice job.

I think they will try to bring in a more experienced LHD to play with Dobson next season, rather than put him on his offside. Dobson has been really good this year offensively and has continued to improve defensively, so I'm hoping they grab someone like Ryan Murray or Derek Forbort on a cheap-ish deal to help cover for him defensively. Then hopefully one of Salo or Bolduc will play with Mayfield.

Leddy is having a strong season, yes and I think a lot of teams would be interested in him in the offseason. However, he's owed $7 million next season and I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say he isn't worth that, especially when this season has been an anomaly compared to his last few seasons. I actually think exposing him to Seattle would actually be a wise move, considering we'd either have to retain salary or send an asset with him for a team to take him and then get very little in return. So I wish we could get a 2nd and a 5th for him lol, but I kinda doubt we will.

Isn’t Bellows still under the required number of games to be expansion eligible?

    Ottawa declines.
They could spend $4.5M and get Martinez on a 2 year deal.
He'd be the perfect guy to play with JBD on the 2nd pairing next year.
Ottawa saves $1M dollars AND doesn't give up any picks.
