If Freddie is done for the year

Created by: BigDaddyOvech
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2021
Published: Apr. 9, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not sure if either team would be interested or if my suggested values are even in the right ball park so feel free to shred me on that.

These are the type of moves I think the Leafs should be targeting, strengthening or adding defense depth and possibly goalie depth given the uncertainty of Andersen. It's hard to think the Leafs could make a deep playoff push without some injuries and we haven't seen what Lil or Sandin look like in the show this year so having them step in is a big risk if that happens.

So just to be clear you are giving up a 1st for a goalie we won't be able to protect and a depth defenceman who has been worse than both Holl and Bogosian this season? I can get behind Savard pushing Bogosian out of the lineup but he isn't as good as Holl. So you are getting a 3rd pair defenceman and a backup for Campbell who will likely be taken by Seattle for a 1st, Abramov and a 3rd.

Why not just get Bernier or Ulmark or some of the other many goalie options to backup up Campbell.

Fair points on the goalies. Maybe they should target one of them and pay a cheaper price. The idea behind getting some rental Ds is what happens when someone goes down? Let's say Oleksiak and Savard are just healthy scratches to start the playoffs. At least if any of our current guys go down there are two big and established guys ready to step in, that both have some playoff experience.

These trades are basically for "what if". Elvis hasn't been as good as Campbell, or Hutchinson, Savard not good as any Leaf RHD and Olesiak and Bogosian doesn't look like a good Dman combo.
So the trades are really for true depth...not guys that really need to play the Leafs this season.

yeah I guess that's my point. I think the roster is good enough to compete with anyone. Sure it'd be great to make a stronger lineup on paper by subbing out someone and someone else in for same cap but a better player. But isn't part of championship teams planning for the what ifs and adding legit depth?

Korpisalo is not a good goalie.

He's had two out of 6 seasons above 0.905. He's below 0.900. He had like an 8 game run in the playoffs last year which makes people think otherwise. He's maybe a back up. I have no faith he is better than Hutch

I think getting some defensive depth is absolutely important. I really don't want to see Marincin back in the lineup.
