I'd keep Anderson. Send a different prospect and I am not sure you even need a 1st to get him.

Andersen isn't on LTIR and never has been. He's actually the expected starter for tomorrow's game vs. Ottawa so you don't get his cap relief on LTIR. That's why Nash was brought in - he's injured and likely out for the season so he can be placed on LTIR and give Toronto that wiggle room to make a deal. But still not of that magnitude yet.

The top 6 would be comprised of players picked:

1st
1st
1st
3rd
4th
8th

Dunno if that has ever happened in NHL history

This story has been updated to reflect the moving of Freddy Andersen to LTI to accommodate acquisition of Nash, and the two scenarios in which Andersen can be activated if the Leafs don't make more moves before Apr. 12 or other players get hurt.

U still have to Put Andersen on LTIR which he isn’t or hasn’t been. With Nah still only 2.5M or so under the cap.

I have read he was retroactively put on ltir. But it clearly hasn't been confirmed.

Capfriendly had him listed on IR and on the active roster. But I've seen nothing saying he was on LTIR. Do you have a link?

This is what I have

If I understand it right if he is retroactively put it on ltir as long as it's been 21 days I don't see any reason he can't be taken off tomorrow. But the rules can be odd so I'm not sure on that.

LeBrun is usually a reliable source, but with how tight the Leafs have been with this I wouldn't believe anything until it was official. That being said I wouldn't be shocked if he low key went on LTIR because Leafs management knows how to work the cap like no other. But with Andersen having last played on March 19, in order for him to be on LTIR he has to miss 10 games and 24 days of the season. So if the LTIR placement was retroactive to March 19 when he last played, he wouldn't be eligible to come off LTIR until Monday April 12. Which doesn't make sense why he's the expected starter tomorrow night. So I don't think he was ever placed on LTIR

No he wasn't.

As per capfriendly CBA rules:
When a player has an injury of which they are expected to miss a minimum of 10 NHL games and 24 days in the NHL season, the team can place them on long term injured reserve (LTIR).

But with Andersen having last played on March 19, in order for him to be on LTIR he has to miss 10 games and 24 days of the season. So if the LTIR placement was retroactive to March 19 when he last played, he wouldn't be eligible to come off LTIR until Monday April 12. Which doesn't make sense why he's the expected starter tomorrow night as per theScore app currently. So I don't think he was ever placed on LTIR.

I just read an athletic article that explained it.

Essentially Nash's contract can't be brought straight into the leafs. So the leafs had themselves right up to the ltir with Marlies players then put Andersen on the ltir retroactively. Then as Nash comes in they take Andy off the ltir and put Nash in his place. So that somehow Andy opening the ltir spot allowed Nash to take it.

Sounds like it was a total paper move and doesn't really affect Andy either way.
