So Edmonton gets a guy with 2 goals this season for the low low price of a 1st, 2nd, 5th, and their power play net front presence guy?

That's correct. You get a hart trophy winger who's had no support this season for 2 million cap hit who can play with Edmonton's elite centers.
Forget 2 goals, this is Buffalo. Jack Eichel only had 2 goals this season for Buffalo. He's an elite talent. This was a season from hell for them.

Swap Chaisson for Archibald if it makes you happy.

I think when Hall gets dealt, a 3rd team will be involved with salary retention like you've done here. Having said that, there is not a single team that would pay a 1st, 2nd and 5th for Hall. The guy is having an absolutely horrible year and is a UFA. Most hockey analysts are pretty adamant that he's netting a 2nd round best case.

Well I hope you realize that’s ridiculous. Why pay top dollar for a player stuck in a rut, when there’s no guarantee they’ll get out of it? His confidence must be completely gone, and theres no switch you can just flip to get that back. Hall is damaged goods and I bet the team that gets him will regret it.

Holland said he isn't paying a first for a rental. If that means the oilers are out on hall then so be it.

Maybe Hall isn't a rental? Maybe he can be signed on a much cheaper contract due to his year with Buffalo.

Would you give up a 1st if you can Taylor Hall on a 3-4 year contract at 5-6 million?

No offence but playing for Buffalo is not really a relevant argument. Good players produce no matter what team they are on. You can't blame being on a bad team as an argument for his poor play. Between powerplays and playing other weak teams, theres no real excuse for having only 2 goals. He put up good numbers despite playing on some really really bad Edmonton teams. Lots of players put up great individual numbers despite being on poor teams. Hall hardly produced with Eichel and has all but disappeared since he got injured.

Saying he can produce with Oilers elite centers is also not a relevant argument. Oilers need to pay through the nose because they have elite players that he can produce with?

Also "forget 2 goals"? Thats like extremely bad for a guy whos played most of the season. If he only had like 10 goals, people would be disappointed. Nevermind 2. Most 4th line wingers have potted more than that.

I'm not a Hall hater, and I actually would like the Oilers to take a stab at him. But a good part of my interest is the fact that his price should be reasonable due to his limited production. Obviously he's still a top 6 winger, but when his production is as bad as it is, you aren't fetching that high of value. That package isn't even that far off from Arizona, coming of a recent MVP season and a full year + of his deal still.

Also just a side note (doesn't really matter), but Oilers value Archibald way way way over Chaisson, so swapping the two makes it worse.

"No offence but playing for Buffalo is not really a relevant argument"...

      Jack Eichel. 2 Goals.
      Taylor Hall. 2 Goals.
      Eric Staal. 3 Goals.
      Jeff Skinner. 4 Goals.

These are very talented guys. Proven guys. 40 goal scorers. It's The environment. The chemistry. It destroys players. It's Buffalo.

I could be wrong (because I don't actually know), but did Buffalos roster change that drastically from the previous year? With a pretty bad team, Eichel still played pretty great at well over a ppg last season. Eichels poor production this season can be chalked up to injuries is my take. Played less than half of the season so I guess there might be a chance he played some of those games bruised up.

Not to knit-pick, but Staal was playing on borrowed time and Skinner has only ever performed in contract years. Injuries play a big part in his downfall, so I don't think anyone is surprised by his play. His contract just really emphasis it.

From the outside perspective, there are lots of takes one can have. Did Halls style of play and/or attitude lead to Eichels or the teams performance? Like I do not care how historically bad the Sabres have been. A player like Hall should easily have 10-15+ goals at this point. Between getting occasional favourable line matchups and just pp alone, that threshold would be effortless to pass, no matter what team you are on. Reinhart and Oloffsson are double digits in goals. Heck almost every player in the bottom 6 has more than 3 goals. I think its clear there are other factors here (in addition to brutal luck) that need to be considered. You just can't expect to receive top value for a player like Hall at this moment. The whole "what have you done for me lately" does matter at the TDL when you will only have the player for a couple weeks and into playoffs. I really don't think thats an unreasonable take.
