Description
Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading reported the Ducks are listening to offers for Josh Manson, but they really like him and it would take a lot of value for Anaheim to move him. LeBrun says he's hearing the ask is a first round pick and a top prospect. Winnipeg & Carolina are 2 teams that have shown interest.

Manson is a right shot two-way defenceman almost like a Jacob Trouba where he brings some offence, physicality, and great defence to his game. Manson would be a great fit on a top pair with Josh Morrissey. Morrissey has not been great this year and last year because he hasn’t had a great partner so he had to carry the pair which he cannot do. The Morrissey contract won't look good unless they pick up a solid defenceman to play beside him. It would take some of the load off of him and let him play the way he did when he was playing with Dustin Byfuglien and Jacob Trouba. It would also force a player like Tucker Poolman out of the lineup who I think is good but at best a third pair defenceman. If the Jets make this trade, it could put them over the top and be the team coming out of the North Division.

Another depth move the Jets could make is picking up Mike Reilly from Ottawa. Reilly has been great for the Sens this season putting up 17 points in 37 games, and only a minus 3 on a bad Sens team. Reilly could be a cheap upgrade to Derek Forbort on the left side to play with Neal Pionk or on the third pair with DeMelo. It would give the Jets some extra depth on defence in case of an injury, now that Nathan Beaulieu is going to be out for a while or possibly the rest of the season. The trade wouldn't be too expensive for the Jets, Sami Niku who has looked amazing in the AHL but can't find a solidified spot on the roster and a late-round pick would probably do it.

After making these moves the Jets would be much deeper on the blueline and will still be in a good position if one of their defencemen get injured in the playoffs. They are also better in the longer-term with a guy like Manson who still has a year after this one. And if Reilly fits in nicely, I could also see the Jets offer him a new deal around 3 years at an affordable price.

Now that we know Wheeler has a concussion, the Jets might want to add a forward. Depending on the timeline of Wheeler, my guess is he comes back at the end of the season, he will probably go on LTIR which would make sense for Chevy going into Monday's Trade Deadline. Putting Wheeler on LTIR will leave us with over 11.5 million in cap room to work with.

If the Chevy wanted to go all-in on this run, he could pick up one of the best players on the market in Taylor Hall. Based on his play this year, and I know that he is on Buffalo, he won't cost any more than a 1st rounder. BUF would have to retain 50% on his contract and the Jets could get a third team (CHI, DET, SJS...) in the deal to retain another 50% so his cap hit would only be 2 million.
Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Hall, Taylor ($4,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
WPG gets Hall who will fill in for Wheeler until he is healthy then Wheeler would go on the 3rd line.
BUF
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (WPG)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
BUF gets some picks to help build up their prospect pool
2.
WPG
  1. Manson, Josh
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Anaheim would be giving up Manson who they really like would likely not be a part of their core when they start making runs at the cup. If Anaheim would give a bit back to the Jets, I could see a mid to late-round pick or a depth piece on the offense.
ANA
  1. Vesalainen, Kristian
  2. 2021 1st round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
The first-round pick this year will probably be a later pick in a not-so-good draft. Kristian Vesalainen is a great prospect that could grow into an elite top 6 winger in Anaheim as there is no space for him on the Jets' top 6 right now. The Jets would be essentially giving up two first-round picks in this deal (Vesalinien 24th overall in 2017) so they would probably try to get a bit extra back from Anaheim if they could.
3.
WPG
  1. Reilly, Mike ($750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Mike Rielly is playing good for them but with Ottawa who is in a rebuild that is almost over, they could use a younger player in Niku who is three years younger than Reilly and could become a nice piece for them in the future.
OTT
  1. Niku, Sami
  2. 2023 7th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Sami Niku could become a top 4 defenceman for Ottawa in the future, although, in Winnipeg, he doesn't have a spot on the roster with a guy like Logan Stanley playing the way he is right now. And other guys like Ville Heinola and Dylan Samberg who could play in the NHL right now. Just Niku could be enough but, the seventh-round pick is just a little extra for OTT if they need it.

I don't know if this gets the trades done, but that would be one scary team

Especially when Wheeler gets back. The lines could be 81-55-27 26-13-Hall 9-25-22 85-17-23 44-Manson 64-4 Reilly-2

Yeah exactly... I would think a guy with the potential of Niku could lend a better player than Reilly, even with his awesome year

Forbort isn't coming out of the lineup unless he gets injured.

The Manson trade is too much for me and he complicates the expansion draft, no thanks.
