Potential Janmark Suiters

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 11, 2021
Published: Apr. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here’s a list of teams that have been said to look into Janmark as a potential option. Toronto, Pittsburg, Boston, Colorado. There was a bit in the athletic that said the hawks were looking to get a 2nd round pick in exchange for Janmark, but we’re also hoping a bidding war could drive up the value. I see Janmark as being an attractive piece in the secondary market after Folgino and Hall are gone, but assuming all of the teams mentioned are in all Janmark at the last moment what could we get in exchange?
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Svejkovsky, Lukas [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
The most obvious return for Janmark is what the Blackhawks are asking for him, a 2nd round pick. My guess is that if there was a bidding war the price could go up to a 2nd and a middle of the road prospect.
PIT
I don’t think PIT would want to trade their 2nd this year because it’s one of the only picks they have in this draft class but we will see. Obviously you could replace with with the 2022 2nd.
    2.
    CHI
    1. Kuntar, Trevor [Reserve List]
    2. 2021 2nd round pick (BOS)
    Additional Details:
Read above for Janmark price from most teams.

For teams with a 2nd this year, I expect the second rounder and a prospect drafted in the 4th ish round. When I pick these guys, I’m not paying attention to the prospect to much so if I pick a guy you really like my bad.
    BOS
    1. 2021 7th round pick (FLA)
    Additional Details:
I think the Bruins would be the team most likely to swoop in late in the trade deadline to pick Janmark up for a 3rd and a middling prospect if Stan Bo plays his cards wrong and Boston is the only one left with interest. However, I have no reason to think he will play this wrong, and I still expect him to get this kind of package.
    3.
    CHI
    1. Niemelä, Topi [Reserve List]
    2. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
    TOR
Standard stuff applies, obviously it remains to be seen if they are in on Hall.
      4.
      CHI
      1. Jost, Tyson
      Additional Details:
If we are asking for a 2nd, and the team doesn't have a 2nd this year or next, how do they acquire a player who costs a 2nd? That’s the tricky part, you can look towards last years draft class and see if their pick in the second round is good...oh they didn’t have one that year either... well how about two thirds? That could interest the hawks if they got a third this year and Jean-luc Foudy from last years draft class? Maybe, but to be honest I think the hawks would be more interested in yet another reclamation project, enter Jost. I don’t think he’s worked out as well as maybe the Av’s or the player have hoped. Maybe they are still high on him and want to give him a bigger role next season? I don’t really know, but in my opinion he is the most attractive piece for the hawks and the most expendable for the Av’s.
      5.

Niemela is a non starter for janmark, he would be on the third line (maybe second). Niemela is our best RD prospect with upside, liljegren is what he is at this point and I think niemela has way more upside so it's not worth it

To be honest, as a B's fan I just dont think Janmark is the guy that sparks the offense enough to solve any problems so to give up a 2nd + for him would be disappointing. Yet, he is the kind of player Sweeney would bring in.

Boston declines, doubt they are interested at all and 2nd alone is pricey.

I know it’s a lot to read, but I mentioned not to worry yo much about the prospects. I was not looking specifically at them, but just any prospect drafted around the 3rd/4tn round.

Chicago always starts asking high in negotiations. They ask for a 2nd now and end up settling for a late 3rd or early 4th. But they likely won't get a 2nd for a bottom 6 forward. Also, you're prospect value here is all over the place: you go from wanting a C- prospect (at best) from Pittsburgh and Boston, to a B+/A- prospect from Toronto, to an already established roster player from Colorado. A bidding war wouldn't drive the price up that much. Toronto walks away because they wouldn't move Niemela straight up for Janmark. Colorado walks away because it's a lateral move on the ice but they lose the age and contract control part of it.

Liljegren is still the best RHD prospect in TO. Is far superior defensively, is further along and has about as much offensive ability as well. Niemela is just hot right now because he won defenceman of the tournament at the juniors. A good prospect but temper your expectation.

It's a buyer's market and every fan base still thinks they are getting premium returns.

It surely was a buyers market. Savard getting a 1st could change that a bit. Hes not that good and needed a 3rd team to retain. We'll see. Not much time left. There could always be a LATE trade like CAR's Waddell last year being completely stupid giving a 1st for Skjei's 5.25M NMC.

That's not what I said, if you read it again I say niemela has better upside. Liljegren is what he is, and frankly I find him a bit late on reads.

Avs definitely aren't giving up Jost for him, the most I would do is a 3rd and maybe a C prospect on top. Id be surprised if CHI got a 2nd

I really like Liljegren. He's going to be more like Brodie than any other player we have. More physical but a terrific skater, really solid in his zone and good at transition.

Emily Kaplin said multiple teams were in on Janmark, hopefully that increases his value...

The Leafs gave up no prospects, a 1st and 2 4ths for good middle 6 depth addition and another depth forward is a pretty good price.

No interest from the Avs there. Jost is the closest they have to a #3C and improving all the time. He hasn't become a star from the first round but he's certainly no bust as yet so they will at least persevere with him this season.
