I don't know how to feel. Might depend on if Mete is claimed by tomorrow.

Meh, in my humble opinion I think he could be slightly better than Chariot if he grinds.

Hope Bergy is not done.

Given that the team disliked Mete already, this is a good move. Moving Verbeek keeps our options open for another trade.

And the habs are now left with $2,534,090 in LTIR room without eating into their accrued cap space.

Question for any Red Wings/Golden Knights/Devils fans, can he play the right side?

Yes, although it seems he’s been much more comfortable on the left side, and it’s likely better for his development. Although I’m not worried about Merrill’s development. wink

The most underrated part of this trade is the habs adding another player whose first name starts with J, joining:

Josh Anderson
Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Joel Armia
Jake Allen
Jake Evans
Jan Myšák
Joel Edmundson
Jonathan Drouin
Jeff Petry
Jordan Weal
Jesse Ylönen
Joël Teasdale
Joseph Blandisi
Jacob Lucchini
Josh Brook
Jakub Dobeš
Jacob Olofsson
Jordan Harris
Jacob LeGuerrier
Joni Ikonen
Jack Smith
Jayden Struble

Edit: 23/69 players (one third) of players in the Montréal organization have first names that start with J.

so Bergevin waived Mete and trades for Merill. Downgrading 101 at its best

L for MTL as Detroit got a free pick and Merill really aint an upgrade over Mete

It's not a downgrade in the slightest. Mete played #6 heavily sheltered minutes while Merrill played top 4 time against medium-top end talent

it is a downgrade lul. Mete is younger and way better, literally all the Habs did was downgrade and now they will lose 2 young good Dman in 1 year.

Noah Juuleson was waived at the start of the season and Florida claimed him resulting in Habs fans wanted Bergevins head as he was also a solid Dman with potential for top 4

Lol, what? Absolutely no one was upset at Bergevin. Everyone was obviously hoping that he cleared waivers, but he needed to get playing time in in the minors to try and recover from his injuries. Unfortunately it’s gone terribly for him in Florida, getting healthy scratched a bunch before getting injured again. The situation is extremely unfortunate, but there’s nothing anyone in the habs organization could’ve done to prevent it.

Merrill has been one of the NHL's most underrated defensive defensemen, playing for a team in the basement.

His cap hit/salary is under a million dollars.

That's a bargain.

Even after what happened with David Savard yesterday, Stevie Y trades him for a 5th round pick and the nephew of his assistant GM.

Nepotism is starting to creep in to the Red Wings organization when the team is at rock bottom while the Habs make out like bandits.

I voted for the Montreal Canadiens smile

Detroit received too little in return. Personally, would rather extend Merrill for next season...

This is very underwelming. I was hoping for Goligosky or Manson or Olesiak, not a guy we could pick off waivers.

And please leave me alone with your advanced stats crap.
