    Ah that's why

I thought it was cause he dropped his McDanalds cheese burger with extra pickles on captain Weber

Are you a Canucks fan now? I hope Vesey getting waived didn't hurt too much.

Because he’s small, not offensive at all, not good defensively, so what does he bring to the table? Sure he’s a good skater but he doesn’t manage to do anything with it, gets out muscled and beat all the time in the corner. I’m a habs fan and I have no idea why people like him aside from him being French

    he doesn't even speak french.

We have not seen any progress since his rookie season. But as you said, greater skater, but he'll lose 1vs1 because of his size and he doesn't really compensate with offense despite advanced stats giving him lots of offense value. Coachs dont like players with defensive issues that bring nothing on the scoresheet

Maybe one of the non-playoff teams picks him up and takes him for a test drive for the rest of the season.

The habs don’t like him as a player. He’s too small and not physical enough for their taste, and his shot is perhaps the weakest in the NHL. He’s a great skater and puck-mover, but Montréal doesn’t value him considering all his other deficiencies.

I don’t really understand. They have the cap space to keep him with Gallagher out.

Lol, what? He has Italian heritage and he’s from Ontario. Mete isn’t French at all.

I think the organization would rather play Leskinen/Ouellet, and losing him keeps Bergevin’s options open for tomorrow.

Ya, maybe they go out and get someone else with the cap space remaining.

LOL? the guy is from Ontario, with Italian roots... I'd be suprised if he knows any french words beside Bonjour and Merci.

Simple. Because he isnt that good.

His only redeeming quality is transition. Literally nothing else.

    Not physical.
    Terrible shot.
    No vision.
    No hands.

Great mobility and great at getting the puck from his zone to the neutral zone. Once there though, has the creativity and scoring drive of Raitis Ivanans.

"Isn't that good" leaves a lot up to the imagination when talking about a guy on waivers.

Mete is not a player who is directly involved in offense, but you cannot argue with the teams positive goal differential with him on the ice. He has never had a negative goal differential in any of his 4 seasons with MTL (and that is impressive because none of them have been playoff caliber teams). He actually has the best goal differential of any defenseman playing for MTL over those 4 years, +30. His transition skills are elite and that means good things for his teammates. His weaknesses and shortcomings are well known, but they can be overcome with right partner.

Mete and Weber were literally a top pair for MTL the year they missed the playoffs with 96 pts... the best season by MTL in the last 4 years. Seen this posted in the comments of the athletic today, Mete with Weber:
    - 136 games, more than 1100 minutes
    - Goals For: 50, Goals Against: 40
    - High Danger Chances For: 256, Against 195
    - More Dzone starts than Ozone

There is a narrative that Mete cannot defend, its just the eye test because it looks bad when he gets outmuscled. A player that couldn't defend would not have those numbers.

Mete needs a new opportunity. If he was in the AHL he could have been developed to run a powerplay and then he wouldn't just be considered an undersized D who has no offense.

The oilers are the best fit in the NHL for him IMO, his $735k cap hit fits perfectly. He played in London with Evan Bouchard and he would fit perfectly with Larsson.

Man I dont agree with a lot there. His +/- is really not indicative of his ability.

Either way, im not dying on this hill either. If he goes on and plays amazing, good for him. If not, whatever. Seeing that he's going to Ottawa where he'll be exposed even more than in MTL, Im confident he'll be nothing more than a bottom pairing dman. Which like I said, is what he is on a bad team. On a good team, he's not in the lineup.
