Teams don’t usually trade their centers when they rebuild they trade their wingers.

Hold on
1.5 years of hertl
is worth a 1st, a top 10 NHL prospect, and even more than that? Am I missing something here?

Look around, guys like Palmieri and Foligno are commanding a 1st at least. If that's the case Hertl is worth 2-3 times that. If not Lundell then at least a top 2-3 prospect from your prospect pool, or 2 from your top 5 would have to go the other way.

The thing is that both are late firsts and Palmieri didn't get the first by himself, he had retention, and the isles also got zajac
If someone trades a 1st for Foligno then that would be a downright dumb move

Top 6 centers in their prime on good contracts don't come cheap... Lundell is a nice prospect, but he's still just a prospect that has proven nothing at the AHL or NHL level. There are plenty of well regarded prospects that have flopped in making the transition to North American ice. Sharks aren't looking to move Hertl. Rather just build around him. So to acquire a 1B center, it is going to cost a pretty penny. Look at what a veteran that can barely play anymore in Nick Foligno just got in terms of return. Hertl is 10x the player tha Foligno is at this point in his career.
