Hertl now getting calls too with Labanc - would a team pull the trigger

Created by: yikes
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 11, 2021
Published: Apr. 11, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Other day was Labanc would be moved for the right price. I stated on my post about that; we could see a player like Donato moved while calling on Labanc. Hertl now is receiving inquiries from GM's in the league. This adds some more fuel to the rumor fire.
Trades

SJS
    NOTICE:

Wilson stated this about Labanc - and even more so its more important for a Hertl move.

He will only move each player for the right price (per sheng peng, on Labanc). So for Hertl who is more valuable - the Sharks wouldn't move Labanc for cheap, and Hertl would likely have to be an overpay to move this TDL.

    SJS
      Labancs cost I see as:

      NOTHING less than a first

But more likely a first and a decent to good prospect based on where that pick projects (obviosuly if a team like NYR buys Labanc they have a higher pick so the prospect wouldn't be as good).

For Hertl the Sharks are definitely looking for an overpay, plain and simple. I see that as a first, a top prospect, and maybe another asset based on the previous two assets.

This is just to discuss the new news of Hertl plus Labanc.

I do think both are 95% not going to be moved. But its fun to look at what Wilson is potentially looking at. A team would likely overpay for Hertl; espeically if theyre a contender this year who wants him for 2 playoffs at 2.6m cap hit. But not Labanc - we'd sooner seen a hertl trade than a overpay for Labanc.

I only see a few teams who would pull the trigger on a Hertl trade:
      TBL
      TOR
      EDM
      VGK
      COL
      NYI
      MIN
      FLA
      BOS

Avs won’t be trading Newhook. They need him more as the only legit contender for 2c after kadri who has 1 year left and avs can’t afford to extend hertl for that job so not a match at this price tag

I just picked the Av's as the west contender because showing a SJS and VGK trade is like predicting the future lol - impossible.

Will have to be an overpay similar to the trades you have here but I'm not sure I see other teams willing to pay as much as the Sharks will be asking.

Too bad we can't yeet Couture :/

Yeah - it'd likely be a team desperate but not many teams are going to be desperate in a COVID year with the lack of money and clarity on drafts.

Fair enough, just saw the title about who would pull the trigger and toased my 2 cents in there

Sharks should ask for an over pay as you mentioned

Yeah - and I love Newhook (as to why I picked him).

I see the Avs as someone who would pull the trigger but doesn't mean they need too.

Its unlikely it happens as both zucc said too

But it definitely makes things interesting with the Sharks both confirming calls on Labanc and now Hertl. But as we all know calls don't mean guarantees on a player moving.

Yeah agreed just the fact that they were entertaining the thought of moving Labanc and/or Hertl is more progress than I expected. Lack of desperation and COVID messing everything up definitely doesn't help either.

Its a sellers market for forwards (that can be retained)
      Foligno deal confirms this
So I don't think the Heartl trade isn't that far-fetched at all.
Not the price I would pay, but wouldn't surprise me.
Labanc deal is asking too much.

Panthers could use couture for 50% retained and you take stralman back lol

The more I think about this, the more I like the idea of the Oilers trade. Retain 50% or take back James Neal and you have a deal. More than a deal at that point; have another draft pick.

By that same standard, the sharks would happily take Barkov for Vlasic haha

I didn’t say that it was a one for one trade but at least my trade is sane. Couture who’s solid has a burden contract for sj while stralman semi useful only has a year left after this season but your trade is basically a top 10 player for a bottom 10 player lol

Just to clarify - Coutures contract length isnt desirable. But the Sharks have zero burden cap space wise (other than Vlasic). Were currently trying to use our available cap space to help other teams. And Couture is actually still good - the length isnt great but he's not a burden for the team.

A couture trade would be pretty unique and unpredictable tho.

Well yes I agree with you. San Jose 100% needs to shed salary and rebuild top to bottom. They have two young guys basically to build around and a bunch of old guys who will become expensive in the next two years. So it will become a burden.

It's probably what the Sharks would be looking for re: Hertl, but absolutely no way the Avs should pay it. Even if they could find a way to squeeze Hertl's cap in next year, they'd be in hell after (other than making significant other moves). Don't see the two as logical partners, but the idea is probably right, just not the right team.
