Kinda scary how respectively way too young players, 16 year old Matvei Michkov and 15 year old Connor Bedard are absolutely dominating the U18 World Championships here.

It's insane how good they are already. And they're not draft eligible in two years.

I'm 23 and starting to have an age crisis on hand.

They are gonna be the next ones! McDavid will be better than them though for his whole playing career, I'm convinced of it.

McDavid could potentially be the best hockey player of all time, but it's fairly impossible to compare players of different eras.

You could argue that Bedard and Michkov are going to be the Crosby and Ovechkin respectively of their time.

If Crosby and Ovechkin had a superstar who was a little older and way better.

At least you aren't playing Blake Comeau 16 minutes a night.

If my calculations are correct, Comeau has 355 minutes of total ice time more than Komorov. Plus Comeau has already been played over Guys like Seguin, Gurianov and Kiviranta. Tbh they both should stop playing hockey.

MATTHEWS HIT 40

Imagine how many he’d have if the Leafs had a good PP.

McDavid now 3A tonight. I hope the hockey media gives him the credit he deserves if/when he gets to 100. He’s on a 150 point pace for an 82 game season. Insane. Truly one of the most remarkable accomplishments is many, many seasons. The league is so much more talented and competitive than ever before.

One of the reasons the powerplay was so successful early on was because the puck essentially went Marner > Matthews > Goal. Once teams figured it out and broke up that connection it started to suffer.

Think they need to split it up again, have front of net guys like Simmonds on the first unit and have Tavares / Nylander on the second.

This isn't NHL news, but what about Canada winning the U18's for the first time in 8 years? Their best forward being a 15 YO?

Is it crazy that he's been better than Connor McDavid in everything when compared?

WTF is wrong with the Devils lately?! I can’t in good conscience root against them, but a week and a half ago they were in full tank mode. Now, they’re beating BOS and the Isles. Not looking good for another #1 pick.

I know you'd always like to pick first overall, but this year is really a crapshoot. Anybody in the top 10 could go 1st overall and I don't think many people would be surprised.

That's good to know. Crazy how teams like NJ and BUF have been much better after losing several key players.

This is just #1, when you get into the top 5, everybody is different. It really is a crap shoot

Usually there is 1 definite #1 or 2 of them. I don't ever reminder there being 4 different options

Thx KSIxSKULLS! Good stuff on the prospecting. Gonna be a pretty decent chance Luke ends up playing with one of his brothers, right? According to Tankathon.com (nice name), the Devils and Canucks have a combined chance at getting the top pick at 14.5% given the current standings. And that's only if Luke goes #1. But, like you said, maybe e it'd be better not to win the lottery this summer

We could get our first confirmed playoff matchup today.

Today’s clinching scenarios:

If Tampa Bay loses in regulation, Carolina will clinch 1st in the Central division, and a TBL vs. FLA playoff series in the 1st round will be guaranteed.

If Dallas loses in regulation, they will be eliminated from playoff contention and Nashville will clinch a playoff spot.

If St. Louis wins in any fashion and LA loses in any fashion or if St. Louis gets a point and LA loses in regulation, the Kings will be eliminated from playoff contention and the Blues will clinch a playoff spot.

If Vegas wins in any fashion and Minnesota loses in regulation, the Golden Knights will clinch home ice in the 1st round of the playoffs.

If Anaheim loses in regulation, they will clinch 30th place in the NHL (2nd in lottery order).

God, I could do a whole damn essay on this asinine Power Play, but to sum up the main point - They don't have any secondary options for their go-to puck distributor (Marner). Like you said, teams have cut-off the MM > AM connection, they did it months ago, and yet there are still no other dangerous outlets available.

How does the new lottery rules work? Say the Sabres retain 1st this year trade Eichel and Reinhart to end up with young players and finish last again for the next 2 years. Can we win 1st in 21, 22, and 23? If we are the worst team each year?

Usually there is 1 definite #1 or 2 of them. I don't ever reminder there being 4 different options

Personally I see the draft rankings as such a crap shoot there’s gonna be a lot of unnecessary criticism in the future.

Safe Picks Inside the Top 10:
-Hughes (won’t be your top pair guy imo, but should be top 4)
-Beniers (safe 2C potential I’d say)
-Powers (better than Hughes imo but not by a mile)
These guys can outplay their “safe” potential but I’d say there’s not much more beneath the surfaces, you’ll get a good player but not a dynamite pick compared to others.

Risky Picks Inside the Top 10:
-Kent Johnson (super flashy but a boom or bust imo)
-Wallstedt (every goalie this early but Jesper is damn good)
-Clarke (boom or bust)
-Lysell (boom or bust)
These guys are either gonna be “okay”/ busts. But if they hit theyre gonna hit big. Lysell and Johnson have the flash to be dynamic top 6 elite players imo. Clarke can be your explosive puck mover twd/ OFD. Wallstedt I love; I think whoever gets him is getting a goalie that’s more valuable than Knight, or Hart (yes hart has nhl experience and kinda stumbled this year) but I think Wallstedt is the real deal for a starter.

Solid top 10 picks but not top 3:
-Guenther (top 6 scorer)
-Eklund (top 6 C)
-Lucius (flashy top 6 guy)
-Evindsson (DFD, shutdown guy)
Guenther, top 6 guy who could hit and be a steal. Eklund is a great top 6 option as well. Lucius I’ll say the same lol but I think he can hit as well. Evindsson will be like your prime Vlasic top 4 DFD but he could flounder and just be a bottom pair good DFD.

These 11 guys all should go in the top 10, but it’s so up in their air Guenther could go at 9 and be the best guy in the draft class. Or a guy like Sillinger who’s likely 11-19 could be. You could draft powers at 1 or 4, and Clarke could go top 3 or top 9. And Clarke and Evindsson will go after Powers and Hughes most likely but each could become better. Or you could see Beniers go as the highest C draft, but Johnson easily could put perform him.

You can't win the Lottery more than twice in a 5 year period. Not sure if there is any back-to-back rule.
