It's almost nothing compared to what a depth veteran scorer like Carter can bring to Pitt. As a Pens fan, I love it!

It’s good for both teams. Only way it backfires on the Kings is if Carter retires and they’re stuck with that nasty recapture penalty

If carter retires after this season, Kings recapture is only about 3 million for one year

Pittsburgh got the 3c they desperatly needed. Picture

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Mccann-Malkin-Kapenan
Zucker-Carter-Rodrigues
ZAR-Bleuger-Tanev

this team could honestly be a legit cup threat

Mccann and Kapenan paired with Malkin was terrifying dont need to make any more changes.

In general Mccann and Kapenan had amazing chemistry and when paired with Malkin that line was just insane

I suspect the conditions are based on Carter playing next season with the Pens. If he retires, I bet the Kings get an upgraded pick since they get stuck with the extra cap.

As a Kings fan, I like this for reasons beyond the return.

* It frees up a spot in the top 6 for either Arthur Kalyev or Samuel ****emo to take over at 2RW
* $2.6 mill in more cap space for a Kings team already in an obscenely-good cap situation, with a flat cap coming for at least 3 years due to Covid.
* Carter didn't want to be traded, but seemed disinterested in hockey. Next year will be his last. He has a new wife and a nice house at the beach. He was worried more about that than a rebuild.

I honestly thought the Kings would have trouble moving his contract based on how he's played for he past several years. Hasn't been the same since his achillies injury.

Having said that, Carter is an historically-clutch performer. 44 game-winning goals out of the 194 he scored as a King. 2nd all-time behind only Luc Robitaille in Kings playoff power play goals with 10. 3rd all-time in Kings playoff goals behind only Robitaille & Gretzky. For those reasons, it was worth the risk the Pens took, and that makes it a fair trade for both teams.

I don't love this fit for PIT. Would've liked to see them add Taylor Hall, even if it cost a little more. I think the Pens were the one team that Hall would really rebound with. He'll struggle in BOS.

I’m not voting yet since the conditions are unknown but seems like a good trade for LA, also apparently if Carter retires after this year Pittsburgh actually would gain cap space because of the recapture penalty, around like 300k

At long last, PIT gets a 3C!

Carter has never been the same player after that brutal leg injury in 2017, but he still produces like a fringe 2C. I'm sure he'll get easier minutes with PIT; at this cap hit, it's a perfect match.

I'm more worried about the cap hit next year.

I don't know, I don't think he outplays Blueger to be honest.
But we'll see. If everyone is healthy this team has decent depth down the middle.
The only question left is who is gonna play RW. They got a whole lot of bodies to put in there.

Carter's been terrible for the past few seasons, the fact LA got draft picks back for him is a massive win for them. Pittsburgh continues to trade picks for over the hill veterans. This takes the cake for the worst trade thus far in this trade deadline.

Until we know the conditions on the picks, I'm holding off judgement.

I'm not voting on this trade yet.

Upgrade McCann? Clearly you haven’t watched any pens games this year
