why? they have millions in cap space. LTIR only makes sense once you are close to the ceiling as possible. using it stops you from accruing cap space each day.

right but thats not how LTIR works. they need to fill the cap space first, then LTIR the guy. And with Johnson, he is only on the cap for like 75k, they would just send him down instead of LTIR. There is almost no scenario where the Rangers would need to use LTIR for Jack Johnson, i feel like it would take hours to try to figure out the exact configuration to get them 75k over the cap lol.
