    Jersey isn't paying the price for Laughton, PIT would be. Your above trade is what NJ would receive for being a broker of the deal.

    No, so if Laughton costs a 2nd round pick Pittsburgh is the one who will be paying a 2nd round pick. NJ isn't trading a 2nd for Laughton, only to get a 5th and Riikola from Pittsburgh. The 5th and Riikola are the price for retention and being the third party to get the deal done, BUT those two assets aren't part of the deal to Philly.

    I think what he's saying is that Pittsburgh has to somehow get NJ a second before any of this can happen because there is no way that the Pens and Philly have any direct interactions.
