Absolutely terrible deal for Vancouver, Gaudette has some upside, and had double digit goal totals last year. Defensively hes a nightmare, but the effort is there (unlike Virtanen). If you dont think you can resign him then move him....but Highmore has zero upside- and hes older! a 4th or 5th rounder wouldve been a better return.
This trade really isn't as bad as everyone else seems to think it is. Sure, not a very good deal for the Canucks IMO, but Highmore is a useful depth player and Gaudette was really struggling with the Canucks.
Again, I'm not saying it's a good deal for the Canucks. But is it really that awful?
- Highmore is older than Gaudette
- Highmore has a career high of 6 points.
- Gaudette had 33 points in 59 games last year.
- Vancouver is already loaded with bottom-6 wings.
Every year, we get a move like this just out of the blue... no rumors, no nothing, no logic either. Just out of nowhere someone sells low on a solid young player and everyone's like "what"?
The chaos of the trade deadline lol.
