Not a fan of giving a 3rd liner 5 years especially in the dead cap era. I think this is a terrible signing for Philly

I really don't get why NHL GMs keep giving mid sixers long-term contracts. This is the stuff that crushes you when you need to deal with a cap crunch at some point.

Don't mind the hit but 5 years is a lot for a 3rd liner without much upside beyond that

I like this contract for Philly. Laughton has good underlying numbers, he could move up into the Top 6. I don't think 3 million is too much for a valuable middle 6 player

Good with the price, term is a bit long but it's only $3 million and a $700k raise over his last AAV. At only 26 I'm good with this.

This was an obvious time to sell fairly high, being the TDL, so of course Chuck Fletcher and co. sign a 3rd liner long-term, successfully hamstringing the ability to retool an underachieving roster in the off-season. Nice job. /s

Good deal Laughton is a good player and when the cap goes up it will be even more of a bargain

Solid deal for both Laughton and the Flyers. Laughton is a player who can play up and down the lineup and flourished last year in any role. He can contribute on the penalty kill, is strong on the forecheck, and makes small plays in the neutral zone that generate offense. A 30% raise and some term won't really hinder the Flyers during the offseason to make some changes. Maybe a year or two too long, but it's still beneficial for Philadelphia.

The Covid/lockdown impact on revenues has been severe. The expectation is for a flat cap for the next 1-2 years, despite the benefit of better TV contracts going forward.

TERRIBLE term to give to a bottom-6 player. Great day for a Pens fan. We got Carter for a fair price and we've seen both teams doing STUPID things. Awesome! Lol

3 million a year is palatable, and Philly should get full value out for all 5 years as Laughton is a young fellow. I love this deal.

It seems like Laughton always sighs contracts that overpay him. Bad contract imo.

If Dubas had sign this player, to this contract, to this term, all of the ACGM's on this site would be praises the Leafs wunderkid as a genius.

Yeah, that term isn't ideal. Also basically guarantees that a protection spot will be used on him (instead of just waiting until after the expansion draft). Could lose a player like Nolan Patrick because of that.

For a 3C, the price is fine. Still, you're not saving any money by signing such a guy for so long. Third liners like Laughton should get three-year deals at most, and they will not get a significant raise after that (most of the time), making the term an unnecessary risk.

Patrick sucks. Only thing that would stink about losing him the expansion draft is we don't get any cap relief.

He does suck but he has some decent tools and is the exact kind of player that could suddenly turn into a really effective middle six type player within the next year or two if he stays healthy.

The Flyers aren't going to get major cap relief in expansion unless they give something up to Seattle to do it.

He's better as a LW than at C, but the Flyers definitely view him as the glue guy that can move all over the lineup and play well enough.
