Absolute steal of a trade. Now it’ll be very interesting to see which of our 8 top defensemen end up in the healthy top 6. Romanov, Edmundson, and Gustafsson can all play the right side.

Relax with steal of a trade lol. We indeed got him for almost free (we can’t sign all our prospect, losing a 7th is almost nothing), but we might also no get much out of him.

Gustafson is so bad defensively... This is a huge win for the Flyers. I'd rather have a random prospect with .01% chance of playing in the NHL than a guy that is a negative impact on the ice. This made me so happy.

Gustafsson has a better W.A.R than Hagg + Myers + Braun. Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say he has a negative impact?

Gustafsson might not end up needed, but this is clearly a great value move. And like you said, we’re giving up next to nothing for a guy that can definitely help the team if need be. And considering what other picks were given up for similar players, it’s certainly below the rest of the market.

Offensively he was fine. Moved the puck well and shots got through for the most part.
Defensively he was a liability both in breakout passes and defensive coverage. This could be in part of not fitting with the Flyers system or just a down year. But it was clear he wasn't going to work in Philly so anything to get him off the team was always going to be a positive for them. Hope he can regain form with Montreal.
I tried finding the one play where his pass turned into a 3-on-0. Instead of found a more subtle poor decision play. These kind of plays were a common occurrence with him in Philly. And it got to a point where his offensive ability wasn't making up for these poor decisions.
People that think this is such a steal for MON haven't watched Gus play. Even during his 60 point season I was BEGGING Bowman to trade him for a 2nd round pick.
He is the worst defenseman on his side of the red line in the league. When he single handedly loses you playoff games you will understand.
