Gustafsson has a better W.A.R than Hagg + Myers + Braun. Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say he has a negative impact?
Our defense is a mess. I'd be perfectly fine with anyone that wants Braun or Hagg (long time anti-Hagg fan). Myers has to toolset that can be improved.
Gustafsson is just bad. He had a few offensive highlights, but his passing isn't good in his own end. He typically finds himself beat in zone coverage and fails to clear given the chance. I like the move for the Habs if he can turn any of it around or gets decent support, but I am also happy that I do not have to watch him play again this season.
Yeah, that was funny. They had to give up their 2021 7th-round pick to get it back, but because they were Stanley Cup finalists that year, it was the second-last pick in the draft. The 2022 pick was 7 places higher, so I guess that was a good trade in isolation, but the 2021 pick was also a pick that they traded away and later reacquired. Reacquiring it cost them Ottawa’s 2020 7th-round pick, which was 35 picks higher than the 2021 Montreal pick, so it appears they lost on that one.
Of course there are other variables such as which was the deeper draft, and whether any of the players picked with these picks ever plays in the NHL. I thought it was a longshot for a 7th-round pick to make the NHL, but I picked a year at random (2015), and without checking every player, I immediately recognized 6 names as at least part-time NHLers (though one of those never signed with the team who drafted him – he made the NHL after signing with another team later as a free agent). Those aren’t bad odds, so it looks like these aren’t just throw-away picks. They do have value.
