I remember arguing with a Canes fan that Fleury was a top 4 defensemen and wouldn't be sold for anything less than a 1st round pick tears of joy

Solid deal for Anaheim, maybe Fleury can show that he actually belongs in the NHL.

Odd move here for Carolina, mind you both players have just a single point this year but the upside on Fleury is a lot more than Hakanpaa...

I think this sites opinion is a little one sided here. Hankypanky has been very good in a limited sample size. Fluery has not been good in a larger one. Seems like a decent trade for both

Low risk, medium reward for Anaheim. Fleury's running out of time to turn it around but Anaheim is a good place to do it.

It's a fair deal for both teams when considering the expansion draft. Bean is a likely protect and Fleury, in that scenario, would've been Francis' pick for Seattle. Getting a solid defensive RHD in Hakanpaa, a guy that is a likely cheap re-sign after the expansion draft, and an extra penny draft stock makes a ton of sense for Carolina. Anaheim, OTOH, gets Fleury's potential and likely protects him instead of, say, Fowler. Note, also, that I was very high on Hakanpaa's play this season.

I think this is my favorite deal of the day.
ANA gets some help. Why not, they deserve it.

Fleury is not that good. I actually think we won this trade because we got a veteran RHD who can fit well with our system and a 6th for Fleury who I don't ever expect to become much. The man has a great smile though. Overall, this is a good trade for both teams.

Hakanpaa has posted some nuts defensive results this season, but it's pretty much all he's got, and I'm not sold that he will be that again. Probably fits Carolina's needs better, but the upside is all Fleury on this one

This trade creates more expansion fodder for Seattle at the expense of our most cost-effective defenseman. Hakanpaa was developing a fine partnership with Fowler. I see no strategic plan at work here at all. Are we really going to protect Fleury and expose two of Fowler, Lindholm, Manson and Shattenkirk? Or are we going to see Fleury selected by Seattle after fewer than 14 games in a Ducks sweater? Or are we going to risk making the same awful mistake we made with Shea Theodore?

What a joke.

This is a trade I would have heaped scorn on had it been suggested by an amateur ACGM. Didn't we audition Christian Djoos for a similar number of games last year? How did THAT turn out?

I didn't know that Carolina was looking to give away Fleury. Zito shoulda given them a bag of pucks and some Arby's coupons to get him for the Panthers.

I voted Anaheim but it's pretty close ... maybe I should have voted fair deal. Anaheim probably gets the better d-man but Carolina gets a right shot d-man.

It's not a true giveaway. Hakanpaa, being RH with absurd defensive numbers in limited sample size, was exactly what we needed, and they got a draft pick back, as well.

People who voted for Anaheim winning trade don’t have a clue of what Hakanpää has been doing all season. It’s scary how much Carolina defense improved. A very solid move by Carolina.
