I really like this team when healthy

Description
I think Carter will be a welcome addition to our roster. I don’t really see any glaring holes at the moment. Maybe Erod at 3RW, but we can roll the dice with a few guys there, depending whose hot. Overall, I’m very pleasantly surprised with this deadline. Thank god pens didn’t over pay for a Bennett type player

I would rock the exact same lines. Carter hasnt really played C this year, but he has in the past and is more than capable of taking on that role. I think this team could surprise people, especially when healthy. Excited to see Carter out there!

I give this deadline a C. I`m alright with it but I would have preferred to do more but we`ll see if this idea that the chemistry built up over the past couple months warrants not making moves.

I’m with you man at full strength every spot looks like it’s filled with the appropriate player. Even like our depth options for injuries. Zahorna-Gaudreau/Laff-Sceviour and riikola/POJ-Friedman/Ruh

I’m so freaking excited and I’m thrilled with the patience that Hexy/Burke have showed. I LOVE that they bought in to this team and managed to address our needs (center depth and right hand shot) and basically gave up nothing but magic beans. And on top of that the player is cap space friendly, not a rental AND a locker room leader.

Absolutely pumped right now

I mean ideally we would’ve added hall but that was obviously never gonna happen.

I know you have wanted to trade Pettersson forever.. but that isnt a deal that made sense right now with the expansion draft looming. I think that kind of deal can work more in the offseason. As for adding more players, there is really no need. This team is 2 points behind first place in the division. This team has also dealt with a crazy amount of injuries. When healthy, this team is solid and can compete. I think we will have a bunch of guys who are deserving of a role already sitting out, so adding more just would not make sense. We also dont have the assets to make it all happen. We will see changes this offseason, but I think you let this team rock it out for now. They are deserving of it.

Yeah it doesn`t sound like Pitt was ever in on him. We`ll see, I`m interested to see what Carter can do. He is going to be playing with better line mates than in LA.

I want to see Pens give him a chance on PP RH halfwall. He is now our best shooter and I think using that on the PP could give us a big boost.

Yes, that is my only complaint is not acting on MP now. I think it would be better to make the move now.

I am fine for forwards I don`t think we needed to move there. Our biggest issue is in front of our own net. Teams have their way with us there, especially on the powerplay and that will only get worse in the playoffs. MP has been utilized incorrectly as our #6 LD in a defensive, physical role because Matheson has emerged as the superior offensive threat. MP doesn`t fit that role and isn`t good at it tbh.

I just think moving MP for futures and replacing him with an actual tough, physical D to play that role was the right move. From listening to rumors and hearing Hextall speak it sounds like they were looking for a 1st for MP and no one was biting so they decided to stand pat and not disrupt the team chemistry. I just think it still would have been better to offload MP and trade a 5th o 6th for Jordie Benn or use the picks from MP for Zadorov. That is my only concern with this team. Jarry is going to have a hell of at time seeing pucks and battling in front of the net, especially in the playoffs when it gets even harder there.

That is my only complaint. We`ll see, maybe the team is super tight and they can rally around together and make it work but when I look at the team I see one major hole and that is it and I think the opportunity was there to fix it today and they decided not to. Obviously I don`t know the details of what conversations were going and maybe they couldn`t facilitate the trades needed to make it happen but I think the team would have been much better if they did somehow make those moves work.

The issue with moving him now isnt from our point of view, but other teams' point of view. A lot of teams already have 3 Dmen (or 4) they plan on protecting, so picking Pettersson up now doesnt make sense for them. Once the expansion draft passes, I could see teams having interest in him. I do think he is probably gone based on the emergence of POJ. Regardless, an MP trade at this point was never going to make sense.

Yes I agree. Plus the teams interested in taking him on don`t want to give up significant picks. I get that but I still think that it would have been better to make the move now. If Hextall got his first for MP then it would have happened. All I`m saying is I would have done it whether or not he returned a 1st. We`ll see how it works out.

We could’ve last summer I bet, but his value has dropped after a rough year

Yeah we could have last summer mayyyyybe but at that point not many knew how good Matheson was going to play for us and MP was firmly in our top 4. Unfortunately Matheson taking Petterrsons role forced MP into the 3rd pairing, physical role and it isn`t fair for him to be expected to be that player. Happens all the time to teams. Teams have roles. His role is a top 4 two-day dman. The role we are forcing him to play just doesn`t work and that has crushed his value. There is no fixing it though because Matheson isn`t good for that role either. Thats why I was hoping for a trade today regardless of his return.

I'm going

McCann Gaudreau Carter.

I don't know. Gaudreau stats at center are elite.
His 5v5 is unreal
70.6 D-Zone starts. 54.1 corsi 54.3 FF. FO% at 50%
But that's not even the bread and butter. His short hand.
He's pulling a 54% FO% and a 16.0 corsi.
He's probably the 2nd best at faceoffs on the team other than Crosby. His Corsi is almost Blueger level good on the PK.
I don't know why they hid him in the AHL all year. They have needed him since the start of the season.

Carter on the other hand, can't PK nearly as well.
So I think I got the right three players above. I don't think you see ERod. A. He can't PK, B he sucks at faceoffs. They will carry the extra center and I think it makes sense to put Carter on the wing.

This team has 1 more year (maybe 2) in them and I couldn't be prouder

after the playoffs is when the decisions will need to be made

I say the penguins go younger and let the vets slowly retire or move on

Dumoulin can be sent to Seattle and allowing for our Dcore to get younger and allow POJ to come up permanently. Would have said matheson but hes honestly looked good and especially when he was paired with Letang.

We extend Malkin unless he want to much money or term (If he wants 10x5 no)

Than we focus on drafting (instead of moving picks) who can join guys like Gaudreau, Zoharna, Bleuger emerging were set along with our vets we can reemerge as a back to back cup threat.
