Chevy missed his big swing

Description
So Chevy spoke about how he was looking to make a big swing at this TDL, he missed and fell back on Benn. Now this is hard to watch, because we saw fleury and Hutton go for so cheap, same with Gudbranson. I wish Chevy could have made the fleury deal. But I’m also curious to know if he even called NJ about Murray.

Anyways onto the post. With Chevy striking out, I think he’ll go for his big swing again this summer. Whether that’s at the draft, or in FA is to be seen. I think if it’s in FA he’s going after Hamilton. If it’s at the draft, he’ll revisit the trades he tried to make at the deadline. Who do you think Chevy was going to swing big for? He said he looked at players with term, as well as short term options.

Here’s how the squad looks with a Hamilton addition.

P.S. I don’t think CAR lets dougie walk, but it’s okay I can dream.

Yeah Fleury or Murray would have been great, I'm thinking he was more likely going for a Manson or something along those lines but tbh I would rather keep our picks/prospects and go for someone cheaper like that.

Obviously Hamilton would look great there but I don`t know if he willingly chooses to move to Winnipeg for 7 years when he probably has offers of similar or more money from team as good or better.

Copp comparaison to me : Iafallo 4X4
      Pionk : Hanifin 6X4.95M
Poolman is pretty spot on : Kulak 3X1.85M or Holl 4X2
      I don’t know about Lowry, maybe a deal like Laughton ? 5X3 ?

I like all of those deals. I just gave what I figured was fair for the guys.

I don’t disagree, it’s highly likely he’d choose somewhere else over Winnipeg. Just dreaming here of better days where Chevy does something.

not many contenders can sign him for this. It will give us an edge unless he wants to go to a different team that may take another few years to contend

I do think he was in on Manson, but the NTC was an issue. I think he was hunting bigger than Manson though. Cause he spoke about guys with long term deals.

This is the 1 thing Jets have going for them in terms of signing dougie. What other contender can offer him that?

The only way this team can get a top pairing RHD is if they draft one (still don't have that player) or trade assets for one with the term (that was not supposed to quote you)

Given CBJ blowing it up and UFA soon-ish, part of me wonders if Chevy asked about Seth Jones

I agree. It’s likely they’ll have to draft one or move assets. I think Chevy was legitimately looking at a big deal that just didn’t get done.

I know people love Heinola but he is the only player we legit have that could attract a top RHD

Totally agree, I just don’t think it’s worth moving him. Heinola is Morrissey’s successor. Like I think in 2 years Heinola will be all around better. So I’d rather see the Jets use perfetti to get a RD. I’m sure you could find some interest from teams that can move a top 4 RHD with term. I’m sure Perfetti + Samberg and a 1st would have many teams interested.

Think they offered laine for provorov and frost.

I’d imagine Jones and Provorov may have been the big fish he was looking at.

The thing is, Morrisey is tied up at 6.125M for 8 years, defense is gonna get really expensive if you got PIonK, Heinola (done with ELC), JoMo, and a possibly top 4 RHD

LOL that’s moreso just my disliking of demelo reaching the surface. If he was left unprotected he’d likely be picked. Also I don’t like beaulieu so that’s why I moved him LOL.

You’re 100% right. But we need to spend the money to get better. Majority of our core is locked up. Just need to get Dubois locked up. Heinola will get a new deal with wheelers deal expiring. Chevy is usually smart with his cap situation.

Looking at the Seattle Expansion Draft, I'm kind of glad that Chevy didn't pick up players with term or any players that would be RFA's after the season, as it would create complications for the expansion draft, so I'm not too unhappy with the fact that we only got Benn, maybe he can regain his form here and be an X-factor for the playoffs?

With this also, I think it's somewhat fair to say Jomo's been underperforming expectations/the contract a bit, so him returning to 17-18 form would make our D look a decent bit more competent

He needs a proper partner as he had with Trouba, Poolman doesn't help him
