Description
Minny will likely lose dumba for nothing if they don’t protect him. They will only be able to protect 4 forwards if they do protect him.

This trade allows them to get a “top 4” defender at an identical cap hit who is much less likely to get picked by Seattle due to the extra year if term. If Myers does get picked, Minnesota comes out of it with an extra first anyways, which is more than they’d get for dumba alone.

From Canucks perspective, the main goal is getting out from under the final year of Tyler myer’s contract. They can let Dumba walk after 2 years if they can’t afford to re-sign him. Might need an additional asset to even out the value, such as an expansion draft exempt prospect

I really suck at following directions. I'll start with that.
1 you don't think Wild could get a 1st for Dumba?
2 Wild as a organization are not interested in playing hot potato with Tyler Myers. He is a traffic cone out there.

Dumba is worth a 1st but not sure the wild will get that without taking something back. Dumba is owed 7.4 million next season and given the wild’s expansion draft outlook, I’m assuming teams will play hardball. Seen a lot of players last offseason go well below their market value and I’m thinking similar things will happen this year

This might sound stupid, but Tyler Myers has been pretty good for Vancouver this year considering we lost Stecher and Tanev. I don't think we need another offensive defender who struggles defensively, we have Hughes for that lol. To be honest, the Canucks have a complete team on D. The only problem is the chemistry between Edler/Schmidt and Hughes/Hamonic. Hopefully, we can get a consistent top-four defensive D for Hughes. Tanev was a huge loss in those terms. He had great chemistry with Hughes and was good at his job. On CGY, he only got better. I think the focus at this point is to get everyone back to practice, and finishing this season, as well as signing Hughes and Petey for the best possible deal. Maybe pick a forward or two (who isn't an overpaid veteran), and hopefully, we can stop sucking for next year. Lol

I get what your saying, but dumba is better than Myers in the D-zone. This trade is pure upgrade for the Canucks, which is why they have to give a first

Very very true, Myers has actually become a decent D-man but IMO He is more of a $3M - $3.5M Defenceman

Wild aren't trading dumba to take on Myers . Just not happening

No, wild don't have to pay anything in matt dumba's trade

Wild could care less about losing 1player. Greenway has reverted back to sucking, & disappearing

Sure let's throw another 3 million dollars at a bottom 6 forward who's 35 years old...is that you Benning?

Wild aren't still not doing this. Parise will waive which enable wild to protect foligno, or greenway. At this point wild could care less about Losing 1 player

Wild aren't trading dumba, & taking back any contract such as Taylor Myers.

    There's a reason Guerin isn't trading dumba.

Wild have two 1st round picks, & also even if dumba is expose, calen Addison is ready. Wild will still have ian Cole, Carson soucy, & calen Addison

Wild probably will struggle to get full value, that I agree on, but in this market Guerin is probably better off letting Kraken take Dumba, rather than take a bad contract.

Look, I'm not saying Dumba to the Canucks is out of the question or that the extra 1st isn’t tempting.

    Because it is.

But it won't be for Myers and a 1st. As others have already noted, we already have our heir apparent for Dumba in Calen Addison. Plus two more prospects who project to be #4-6 type defenseman on top of that in Brennan Menell and Louie Belpedio.

So losing Dumba isn't so much an issue of expansion concerns, as it's an issue of no longer continue affording him with the large contracts due up. At which point its more imperative to maximize return of value lost than for free. People think we lose if that happens, but if we let Seattle take Dumba, we just gained $6M in open cap space.

The point being we're in no rush or will be hurt franchise wise by going either route. Losing him for free would suck, and I can't say I'd enjoy handing Seattle a top pairing RHS OFD for free, but the cap space gained is nothing to sneeze at either.

This doesn't mean Guerin doesn't turn over every rock he can to maximize any possible returns he could get for the guy. He's been pretty vocal about what he wants. Either a 1st or 2nd line center, or top six winger is the most ideal return. But he would settle for a good center prospect who has top six potential, plus picks.

I.E. Morgan Frost, Alex Newhook, Peyton Krebs, Cody Glass, Trevor Zegras, Cole Perfetti.

Those are just examples, not saying it's what he would get, but who Guerin would ask for all the same.

Realistically, the only two players I would expect Guerin would try and get back in any Dumba trade to Vancouver is either Horvat or Boeser. Not that I'm saying he'd succeed or that the trade package would be the same, as it would obviously shift depending on the ask returns gained by both sides.

Oh yeah no question he's overpaid regardless, but it's been an easier pill to swallow as he's sorta back to his top 4 form. Definitely a 3M - 4M defender tho

^ This shows Dumba's rapm chart last year. He wasn't so hot offensively, and was a train wreck defensively. So was Myers, but now that Myers has bounced back I don't think it makes any sense trading a first just to get us Dumba. Of course I know charts don't tell the whole story, which is exactly what applies to Myers. If you watch nearly every game, it's evident that's he's improved and not worth trading for another guy who's a few years younger and making the same money while adding on a first

if they can hang on for a year or 2 they might be able to get 2-3 years with him at 3.5M
