Kempe doesn't belong anywhere near 1st line.

Kupari and ****emo are the next two forwards to make the jump into the NHL. Kaliyev probably as well. Madden won't get a call-up before those guys.

Turcotte missed some time with injuries this season. I suspect he won't start the season in the NHL. He'll probably get a call-up when LA loans Byfield to the WJC.

I suspect the lines will look more like this:

    Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
    Kempe-Vilardi-Kaliyev
    Kupari-Byfield-****emo
    Grundstrom-JAD-Moore
    Wagner
    Lemieux

Defense looks fine, but now that Iafallo has been extended, I don't think the Kings will go 4/4/1 for the expansion draft, else they risk losing Grundstrom or Athanasiou. Clague is likely to be the player that is taken by Seattle.

Before Iafallo's extension, there was a chance that the Kings went 4/4/1. Now that he's extended it's unlikely. The Kings protection list will likely look like this:

Forwards: Kopitar, Iafallo, Kempe, Athanasiou, Grundstrom, Moore, Andersson
    Defense: Doughty, Walker, Roy
    Goaltender: Petersen

That leaves Brown, Wagner, Frk, Lemieux, and Lizotte on offense, Clague, Strand, and Wolanin on defense, and Quick at goaltender. From that list, it's pretty much a no-brainer that Seattle will take Clague.

They could, but I don't think they would. He'll only have 1 year left on his deal and probably wouldn't stick around once his deal expired.

I also meant to put Andersson on the list in Wagner's spot. Wagner would be available as well.

I still believe there is a significant chance they look at Lizotte (larger sample size and more flexibility of where to play him). But I understand your selection, Clague has the highest ceiling of the players listed above.

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with who's a better player, but rather that defensemen have more draft value than forwards. If you look back to the Vegas draft, McPhee took defensemen with 100% of his elective draft picks. (14 forwards, 13 defensemen, 3 goaltenders). Unless there's a substantially better forward available, I think there's little chance that Seattle takes anyone but Clague. With how he has played this year, I wouldn't be surprised if Seattle took Strand if LA went 4/4/1.

Interesting, you might be right if they follow a similar plan as Vegas. Out of the King's LDs likely graduates: Bjornfot, Anderson, and Clague all look like legit full-time NHLers to me, but I'm not sure anyone screams top-pair or if I can even say Clague is the best of the group. With Strand looking ready and players like Grans and Faber in waiting on RD, I wonder if the Kings feel comfortable moving on from Walker (doubtful). I get your concern though, it seems pretty likely we might lose Clague who might just be another Cernak like player that we will be kicking ourselves about years down the road.
