2021-2022 MN Wild Off-season

Created by: KoeberBrick
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 12, 2021
Published: Apr. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
----- Before We Start ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- This is just my opinion
- Taxi Squad members would be battling for a roster spot against players like Matt Boldy, Marco Rossi, and Nico Sturm
- Let me know what you think!

----- Expansion --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
- I believe Guerin will be able to get Zach Parise to waive his NMC for the expansion, especially after the season he has had this year
- I expect teams to try and get Matt Dumba cheaper prior to the expansion draft, I think Guerin goes for it
- I am expecting Seattle to pick Cam Talbot because of his contract and his recent play

7 Forwards:
- Mats Zuccarello (NMC), Kevin Fiala, Jordan Greenway, Joel Eriksson Ek, Marcus Foligno, Ryan Hartman, Nico Sturm

3 Defenceman:
- Jared Spurgeon (NMC), Ryan Suter (NMC), Jonas Brodin (NMC)

1 Goalie:
- Kaapo Kahkonen

Waived NMC:
- Zack Parise

Top 4 Exposed Players: (Players can be picked while being a UFA)
- Cam Talbot, Carson Soucy, Marcus Johansson, Ian Cole

----- Trades ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vancouver:
- I think VAN could use a top-4 dman and MN doesn't want to lose him for nothing. Originally it was released that MN was looking for a top-6 forward but unless Dumba has an amazing playoffs I think this is the best offer that they will get (1st and a prospect)
- The last time VAN traded a 1st for a player they hit a home run with it ( J.T. Miller), maybe it'll work here too.
- MN doesnt have any NHL quality d-man prospects past Calen Addison and Ryan O'Rourke. They really need to restock the cupboards.

----- Free Agency --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key Returning UFA's
- Ian Cole: Guerin has already been in talks with Cole about returning and he has stated that he loves it in MN

Key Returning RFA's
- Kirill Kaprisov, Kevin Fiala, Joel Eriksson Ek

New UFA's:
- If Derek Stepan can be signed for a discounted rate I think he would be the type of player that Guerin would love in the locker room as well as fill a 2/3C role
- David Rittich could prove to be a decent backup for Kaapo while he tries his first year as a starter
- Eriksson Ek's emergence this season lessons the need for a true top six center

Key Players Not Resigned:
- Nick Bjugstad, Nick Bonino, Marcus Johansson

If I was Kaprizov I would ask for more however overall you did a great and very thorough job

Why are you exposing Dumba over Suter? Suter's a great dman and everything, but he's 36 and got 4 more years of 7.5 million, he won't be the effective dman he is for that long, and that's a lot of lettuce. I don't think you even need to protect Suter, I doubt Seattle wants that much term for a 36 year old dman. Trading him to Vancouver before the expansion draft means Vancouver will have to protect him, so I'm guessing its done after?

Because Ryan Suter has a NMC in his contract, same as Parise, so he is automatically protected because of it. He would have to waive in order for us to protect someone else.

I have no clue why we would go for a short term contract like that for either Kaprizov or Fiala.

In Kappy's case, I'll take a 7 or 8 year contract at $7-9M now over having to pay him $10M+ on his next contract in two years time for an equivalent contract length.

Cap Economics 101. Lock the budding superstar up long-term on the more expensive in the short-term but ultimately cheaper contract than if you push it back another two years on a bridge contract.

Same thing applies to Fiala as well. Minus the superstar bit, but a high-end winger with elite potential nonetheless. 6-7 years on a $5.5-6.5M deal would be fair.

Joel Eriksson-Ek is still probably looking at a 3-4 year deal at around anywhere of $3-4.5M.

Hard no on Stepan. I'd rather go sign Danault if that's what we're looking for, which I do hope we do.

I think that would price Hartman out of Minnesota. We can't afford that with other contracts due up as well.

Cole shouldn't get more than $2.3M..... MAXIMUM. I'd love to bring him back, but only if it's for a cheaper $1.9-2.1M contract at a reasonable 2 years.

VAN decline, they are not in a position to move 1st round picks, also this move doesn't help with there cap situation.

    Easy fix.....

Ship back Boeser or Horvat instead, keep the 1st, and adjust filler on either side to make it work. Either picks or an OK prospect.

    Sound good?
