taking a crack at nexts years lineup

Description
Poile opened the door to resigning Granny and even Ekholm during his presser. Definitely could just be posturing so that team morale doesn't get shaken up. We can afford to overpay Granlund in the near term if he is willing to keep the term short. My guess is he wants to stay here.

But let's assume he takes this chance to get rid of a bad Joey contract (because, for a number of reasons, its much more likely he gets rid of Joey instead of Duchene). Its really hard to figure out their plan for the rest of the lineup which is why I have 4 scratches for now. I think we learned this year that depth is really key. Maybe Davies/Jeannot start the year in the AHL and are the first call ups when there is an injury.

EXPANSION DRAFT: Throw in Grimaldi or Janrkrok for them to take Joey. I would much rather give up Duchene but Poile won't do that. Joey would be much more desirable for Seattle so I think its much more likely that he goes instead of Duchene.

I don’t mind keeping granlund but no way would I give him 6 million a year. He’s not producing like a 6 million guy so I’m not giving it to him

Even if Granlund agrees to a 3-year deal, it shouldn't be that much. I wouldn't go over 4.5m

At this point, I'd rather lose Duchene than Johansen. I'm OK if we end up keeping both though. I think a top 9 like this would look pretty good next season:
Tolvanen - Johansen - Arvidsson
Forsberg - Duchene - Tomasino
Jarnkrok - Granlund - Kunin

Some contracts could be adjusted a bit too -- Saros should sign for at least $4m (especially after that Demko contract), and I think a Granlund extension would come in around 3-4 years at $4.5m.

I bet Farrance gets that 3LD spot too -- unless he gets some time in the AHL first.
Josi - Ellis
Ekholm - Carrier
Farrance - Fabbro

I'd like to keep Granlund, but as for the expansion draft, couldn't Seattle just take Jarnkrok or Grimaldi anyway? I would assume we'd go 8 skaters (Forsberg, Arvidsson, Kunin, Josi, Ellis, Ekholm, Fabbro, Carrier/Jarnkrok). I just think that there would need to be more added for them to take one of the $8 million dollar centers. I'd prefer to keep Johansen over Duchene now though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Farrance get some AHL time. Especially with Benning and Borowiecki still under contract - there's only so many spots in a lineup.

Everyone that is saying Joey over Duchene... I agree but how do you think it happens? Do you really believe Poile will do that? Will be too much backlash about not being able to bring in big free agents if we ship them out after 2 years.

Players are anchored to prior contracts. $3.75M was a COVID lowball. I'd be surprised if its below $5M for a 3-4 year deal since he was making $5.75M on his prior deal.

Crazy I was about to make a team that said what I want our lines to look like at one point this season and that top 9 is exactly the same as I was gonna put down. Tolvanen looked great with Joey and arvi and having Tomasino and his young energy might spark duchene plus forsberg and duchene have already showed some kind of chemistry.
Defense wise what I would like see is when fully healthy is
Josi-fabbro
Ekholm-carrier
Harpur- ellis
Don’t necessarily look at the pairing as 1st,2nd,3rd pairs because you spread our vets with young players and besides harpur and Ellis we’ve seen the other pairs look very good. And I think Ellis playing with a defensive defenseman like harpur could make his offensive numbers better. Plus you can play all 3 pairs playing pretty even minutes

I’ve thought about splitting the big 3 too — could be a fun idea. I wonder if Benning would play over Harper though.
