Question about Bellows

Description
So the consensus is that Seattle will be taking Bellows in the Expansion draft. Okay. However, doesn’t he need to play a certain number of games in order to be eligible for the Expansion draft? To my knowledge, he hasn’t met that requirement, and now that Zajac and Palmieri are Islanders, there’s no way Bellows will get to that benchmark. Is there something I’m missing? The Isles really need to find a way to get Seattle to take big contract.

That’s what I’ve seen, but EVERYONE says Seattle will draft him. Like I said, I think there’s something I’m missing, but I just want to be clear.

He is eligible to be taken. He needs 13 more games, and be signed to an extension, to count as one of the Islanders 2 forwards to be exposed.

With Ladd, Komarov and Clutterbuck the Islanders will have 3 guys that meet exposure requirements. Anyone one the simulator must be protected or Seattle can take them. Except for the exempt players on the bottom....

Honestly With trotz being a system over player coach, they need to trade bellows because he’s just going to tank his value. They should use bellows to get rid of bailey .

Those 13 games arent games he needs to play to be exposed. He will be exposed regardless if he plays those games or not.
Essentially, each team needs to expose 2 forwards and 1 dman that have played either 27 games this season or 54 games combined between this year and last AND be signed past this season.
Each team needs to respect those requirements to give Seattle a fair shot of drafting NHL players. Bellows completing those 13 games will not affect his eligibility in the expansion draft. He will be exposed regardless. A lot of people dont know this rule, so I dont blame you for not knowing haha. I hope I explained this clearly.

Thank you, people keep saying “NYI will expose Bellows”, but gloss over the game requirement. Is the idea that the game requirement just whether or not a team is obligated to expose the player, and that the team can choose to expose the player even if they fall short of the game requirement?

Still, I’d think exposing, say, Bailey, Clutterbuck and Leddy gives the Kraken plenty to work with, right? That’s three NHL players with more than enough games right there. I guess I’m just confused on why the Isles expose Bellows if they’re not required to.

The games requirement only has to be met on a few players for each team, and each team can only protect 7 forward and 3 defenseman or 8 skaters. Teams must have 2 forwards meeting the games requirement exposed and 1 defenseman, but the players who aren’t exempt and don’t meet the games must be protected or the can be selected.

So even if bellows doesn’t meet the games required, he’d still have to be protected or Seattle could select him.

The only players who are exempt are first and second year pros. Everyone else is exposed. The team must expose the 2 forwards and 1 dman under contract who meets requirements, but everyone else who isnt protected is still exposed and Seattle can take them. The only rule for Seattle is that they need to select 20 players under contract for next season. If Bellows is not protected, he will be exposed no matter what.
