Yes but at that time Thornton worked on the top line. I like Galchenyuk with JT and Willy, and Hyman with Matthews and Marner elevates them to a level well beyond anything Gally can.

The time when Thornton didn't work on the top line was just a time when Matthews wasn't scoring. Literally anyone can play on that line and it's likely going to succeed. Looked great with Gally as well. Matthews and Marner don't need Hyman, he may be the perfect compliment but he isn't the reason the line succeeds.

Matthews and Marner can produce on there own, or yet they should.
Hyman on the third, even though he is a top 6 guy will boost that line incredibly, and make it a threat as well.

The point I am making is Hyman gets way more credit than he deserves. According to half the people on this site he's the reason Matthews scores goals. They also say Hyman is a 30 goal scorer who can make any line great. He's a very good player no question. However, he is not the reason why good players succeed, he helps by complimenting them. Complimentary players are not super stars.
