Playoffs lines if things get weird

Created by: AustonMatthews3443

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 13, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These lines should only be used if absolutely necessary. I don't really care if you put Matthews or Tavares at Center I prefer Matthews as he's the better skater but I can see both sides of it. As for Dermott and Hutton, I think it's Dermott's spot for now but I can see Hutton taking over if he returns to his form from Van.

I don't think there is a single Leafs fan on this site that doesn't disrespect Thornton.

Why though? He hasn't done anything since he played with Marner and Matthews and anyone will produce with those two. He's useless on the line with Spezza and Kerfoot, the play dies every time it hits his stick. I don't care what he's done in the past he's too slow now, and he's not able to use his playmaking ability as much because his feet hold him back. He's a legend of the game but the leafs are pushing for the cup and they need to ice their best 12 forwards, Nash is the only player even worth considering putting Thorton in for but Nash provides some grit, can kill penalties and is a right handed shot centremen all areas that the leafs desperately need. I think it would be a shame to play him in the playoffs when it is the best shot we've had at the cup in years.

He does a lot of stuff. Points aren't everything. Several goals have done in with him screening the goalie. His leadership is vital as well. That is all lost on most people on here. "He didn't get points, he sucks!".

Never said points are everything but Thorton does not contribute much other then his playmaking (which is handicapped because he's so slow) and leadership. He's a liability in his own zone because he's too slow and he kills so many plays in the ozone because of his foot speed. Sure he can be a good net front presence, we have Hyman, Simmonds, Foligno, Mikheyev, etc. He can still provide leadership when he's scratched, he's still with the team and he's a great pro who would realize that the coach is doing what he feels is best for the team and still help out any way he can i.e leadership. If you feel like Thorton is being disrespected, who would you take out of the lineup in place of him?

I've never liked Tavares with Matthews. It never seems to work. Always used in desperation and it just depletes the line up.

If you want to stack the top line put Nylander on the other wing.

Agreed for the most part. I've seen it works in spurts, but this is kind of a 10 minutes left down by a couple goals type scenario. You're right it never works for the whole game the rest of the lineup suffers but I think the addition of Foligno helps out there but last year against CBJ when they got desperate this line was awesome.

That's fair but I think Nash brings more to the table in terms of what the leafs need, grit, pk and is a right shot centermen who's around 50%. I wouldn't be heartbroken to see Thorton in over him but I'd prefer Nash.

To get in Nash would need to A get healthy, which won't happen until the playoffs begin and B prove that he fit within the system to push someone else out. Which is why I say he won't be in the lineup unless injuries or someone else is absolutely terrible.

I have really appreciated everything that Jumbo brings to the table with the Leafs this year in terms of the his leadership traits.........His ex-teammates in San Jose just rave about the player.........i see why they have nothing but respect for Thornton now..........You could tell he was all in this year and wants to win a cup in Toronto when he went over to Europe even at his age to play before the season began to get himself into tremendous shape...........Hockey fans across Canada have been blessed to watch him very closely this year........He is going to come through in the playoffs when it matters most and fans are going to appreciate him more........Dubas realized that Marner and Matthews need to be around a player like Thornton so they can continue to grow and develope into elite players in the NHL.....You can see it in their faces how much they appreciate playing with Jumbo this year.
