The bruins are definitely going to take a big step back, but their best player just turned 23, and they have a 24 year old that just lead the NHL in goals. I feel like that alone will keep them out of the bad category.

The Bruins have a very underrated collection of young talent on their roster. In 5 years the worst I see them being is in that average tier. Columbus is in a similar boat: their goaltending and defence is young, and they can afford to lock Laine and Jones down long-term. Depending on what they find in this upcoming draft, that trio plus Chinakov and Foudy adds a lot to their roster.

Depending on how they play their cards and what kinds of prospects they add, the Sabres could be anywhere between bad and good. It hinges on an Eichel trade: if they keep him, they're probably good enough to annually challenge for a wildcard position but still a few steps shy of making any real noise.

I don't think we're giving the Islanders enough credit.

If Benning is still the Canucks' GM by the start of the 2022 season, no chance they're good in 5 years. If he isn't, there's a chance assuming he hasn't done too much damage. Red Wings could be great/elite with Yzerman. I would only put COL, LAK, NYR in that tier for now.

Not really. Panarin will be pretty old by then. Lafreniere and kakko kinda look like crap. I’m not seeing much on the back end beyond fox, and I’m not seeing them loaded at wing.
