I love my guys, don't get me wrong, but the Leafs get the more productive and cheaper duo who are also signed for longer.

The Leafs win, any Leafs fan would jump at trading Matthews for McDavid OR Marner for Draisaitl.

Leafs 100% win this deal not even close, I think the Oilers quite clearly become worse.

Oilers group is better, McDavid and Draisaitl are both centers but only Matthews is a center so the positional value is clear there. McDavid and Draisaitl are both more productive separate than Matthews and Marner are together. Those factors make up for the fact that Matthews is a year younger than McDavid and Marner is a year younger than Draisaitl.

Mitch and Auston are some of my favourite guys in the league, but the Leafs win this hypothetical trade, and it is not close at all

Although you make some interesting points and it's well thought out the leafs still rob the oilers here. McDavid is far an away the best player in the league that the positions and small age difference don't make up for the huge disparity in value

Matthews for McDavid yeah, but I wouldn't touch Marner for Draisaitl if I'm Toronto. The amount of difference in the offence Draisaitl provides isn't worth it when Marner is far, far better defensively. I'd want the 200ft player more than the pure offence

Not to put too much into this debate, but saying Matthews and Marner don't produce more when separated is just false. Marner's beat season came when he wasn't on Matthews line at all

While thats actually not the argument I was making (I said that McDavid and Draisaitl separated produce more than Matthews and Marner together), its also a false statement. This is the highest PPG season for both Matthews and Marner, theyre better together than separate and even then they don't touch McDavid or Draisaitl in point production.

I actually made a mistake in my first statement. I wanted to say "oilers group is better" but I said "oilers win the trade" implying i think the leafs group is better, which I don't sorry for the confusion

Yeah, I can understand that, Draisaitl brings no defense and Marner is younger, but man Matthews, Drai, and Tavares up the middle plus $2.5M in extra cap space would absolutely wreck this league. The leafs already are a destination for veteran 2-way wingers who could offset Draisaitl's defensive flaws.

As much as I like Matthews and Marner, and they are easily the second best duo in the leafs, I'm still taking McDavid and Drais. It's a lot closer than some people think though. AM+MM is an absolutely lethal duo. But still, it's McDavid. He's the best player in the league, and anyone who says other wise has never watch a single second of him on ice.

There is no question McDavid is the best player in the world. So Leafs win. Matthews is way better than Draisaitl and I'd say Marner is likely equal to or better than Draisaitl but McDavid is just the best.
