Not awful but the Sharks would probably be looking to get more back than we paid for Donato. Asking price would probably be a 2nd or 3rd and a better prospect than Costmar.

That being said, I personally would like to move on from Donato before the ED. So organizationally a trade like this makes sense imo.

Ya I've been trying to find his value. I feel like a 3rd (same as they paid) + a mid prospect would be fair because donato has been playing 3rd 4th line averaging about 13mins per game and he is an RFA so his qualifying offer will be around 2.1M. I'd be fine adding pretty much any prospect but I wouldn't be willing to trade a 2nd.

Yeah you have it relatively on point I think. He's playing at around a 40 point pace (82 games) but he's also being played in the bottom-6 for some reason. I think a later 2nd would be fair but obviously VAN's pick will be something more like 35-40 OVR and I do think that would be a bit of an overpayment. Would be interested in prospects like Lind, Rafferty, Gadjovich or McDonough. Maybe some other RD prospects if possible since that's where we're weak.

    Off top of my head

Protected: Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Miller, Pearson, (2 more F spots), Myers, Schmidt, Juolevi, Demko
Notable exposed: Holtby, Edler (UFA), Hamonic (UFA), Ferland, Beagle, Rousell
Could go either way: Virtanen, Lind, Motte

Rafferty will be an RFA or else id be all in for that. I'd listen on any of those other guys. Would love to see a deal worked out though. For whatever reason Donato seems to always get pushed down the lineup (in Minnesota and SJ) even though he produces points and is decent defensively. Think he could be a good fit in Vancouver and get an opportunity to play higher in the line up.

Ya tough to say who they will protect with the last 2 spots but it's not going to be a huge loss compared to a lot of teams. I think there's still a decent chance that Seattle will take Holtby just because the lack of other quality but could also see them electing for a prospect. Virtanen definitely an option but I think Benning would like to get something for him still or give him another a season to hopefully raise the value a bit so I think he ends up being protected.
