If Foligno and Hyman Take Team Friendly Deals

Created by: NazemKadri43
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2021
Published: Apr. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know the chances of re-signing Foligno would be slim, but all of his family lives in Sudbury, Ontario. Although, as of right now, Foligno's heart is still with the CBJ's, but once he plays with the boys and is close to home, I think his opinion could change. I also think that during the draft/FA, Dubas will trade everyone who is replaceable (Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Holl, and Engvall) to re-accumulate some of his lost picks

No way you're getting a 2nd for Kerfoot

Lmao yes we are. Look at what Sam Bennett got. We are talking about Dubas over here, not your GM. He could probably convince a GM to give him a 1st

Gee, Foligno hasn't played a game yet for the Leafs and he's making 4m. I don't consider that team friendly at all. Give him 4m and you've really squeezed other players or just not getting good enough players to fill the other positions.

I wouldn't consider giving Foligno $4M if it meant losing Mikheyev.

You shouldn't consider giving a 33 year old more than 2 million. He's obviously declining already. Still has value but he's old.

They gave up 2 seconds for Athanasiou, then didn't resign him. They might even be dumb enough to give up a first and a second.

A quick run down:

-The D is worse.
-The offence is arguably worse, given that your bottom 6 center depth is rotten.
-There's probably not much point arguing about Kerfoot's trade value, since he'll most likely be expansion fodder (Or, trade him before that to recoup something, which will drive the price down further)
-Driedger likely makes more.
-Goodrow likely makes more.
-Weird question: Why do Leafs fans go on so much about how much they love Hyman, then consistently turn around and give him a bad contract?
-Simmonds definitely makes more.

Edit: Too much for Foligno (So was the return on the trade...)

Pens don’t need Holl. Leafs are better off keeping him or trading him someplace else

How on earth is 4 mil team friendly for Foligno?

Trading our most cap efficient contract in Holl? To play Rielly on his offside where he is way worse?

Highly doubt Driedger takes that option...

Depending on grigorenko as 3c is a TERRIBLE idea.

You are trying to hard to make too many changes...

dont see foligno coming back, hes already been rumored to resigning in columbus even before he was dealt. so i dont think team friendly would matter much in that case. after what laughton just got on a 5 year deal. gotta think hyman could get closer to 5 now.

I don't see him returning as well, but I would argue that all his family is in Ontario and maybe after playing with the boys, and whether the Leafs go far in the playoffs, maybe he would want a change of scenery

FA started in October. ATHANASIOU signed in December for 1.2. Edmonton Signed Ennis for 1 and a bunch of filler contracts in that time. THATS CALLED BEING A BAD GM.

If the leafs DONT go far with the playoff scenario the way it currently is, something would have to go materially wrong. They should be in the conference championship easy with how the north is set up. Massive failure if they dont get there. now whether they get to scf or not is a different issue.

He also sucked.

I don't think it was a bad gamble but it was a failed gamble.

The world changed between trading for AA and then not qualifying him for $3M. That was the right move in the flat cap environment. He used that money to sign Tyson Barrie ($3.75M) which has worked out rather well, on the whole.

The thing that impressed me was that Holland was willing to walk away from him come summer. Most people would have been too proud to do that.

I'll agree with that. The concept of sunk costs is really hard to embrace

I can think of plenty of gambles that I think we're good ones that failed. That's why they're gambles.

The Holtby in Vancouver is a perfect one. You had a guy who was only 30 and from 25-28 or so was like a top 4 goalie. But he has stunk for 2 years. Giving him moderate money for short term to see if he could rebound was a good gamble as it was only two years and only moderate money for a starter and was a plan b anyway with Demko coming. But boy did it fail lol

Ken Holland isn't Florida's GM and doesn't have the cap space lol
