A short term boost

Created by: Kylonetic8
Team: 2021-22 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2021
Published: Apr. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Eichel makes the Caps better immediately, a better overall C than Kuzy.

Trading Eichel makes sense for Buffalo, they're years away, but this'll accelerate their rebuild by getting more ready players instead of just pure picks. McMichael fits their timeline better than Eichel, and Samsonov is young and should be a starting caliber goalie for several years.

Grabner is a cheap one year replacement for Hags at 4LW and PK.

Cap space to sign another bottom 6 forward if Grabner doesn't work out or falls apart or doesn't mesh with Dowd-Hathaway.

TvR and Alex can replace Chara if he falls apart due to age.

Well BUF should be happy then.

Caps will probably have to deal Samsonov or Vanecek in the off season. McMichael is still just a prospect. We're actually not giving up any starters on the current roster aside from Kuzy, but he's replaced with a better C. So not sure what you mean. Caps are sacrificing future to get better now with this trade. It's what they've been doing, as their core only has 2-3 years left.

My question is ....if the goal is to win a Cup why would you trade the main catalyst that lead this team to winning a cup. What has Eichel ever done that would lead you to believe hes actually a winner or worth selling the farm for? to me hes a great player that adds nothing that wins cups. the NHL is full of non factor superstars. Kuzy playing to his ceiling > guy was unstoppable during that cup run. Im not making this trade bc Eichel is a loser and always will be... no matter what. his team improved greatly and they are still bottom feeders. Cant blame management they put them in a position to win

How did they do that? The guy has been great on a team with awful support.

You could make that same argument with the Mantha and Vrana swap. Mantha is a loser and Vrana is a cup winner. They did it anyway.

Kuzy hasn't been that cup run guy for over 2 years now. He's probably never going to be that again. Eichel is the better player.

Is this an overpay? In my opinion, yes it is. However, BUF fans can't complain with the way I set it up. It's Caps fans that are. So the truth lies somewhere in between.

Vrana had 8 points during the cup win and 0 since winning lol hes hardly a winner. Mantha has the exact same amount of playoffs points as Vrana the last 2 years... not the same

Kuzy last 3 years in the playoffs

    7gp 1g 5a 6p
    8gp 3g 2a 5p

his playoff numbers are really good …. why would you trade him? his defensive game looks great this year also. i love Kuzy game and i think hes becoming a better all around player which will be huge in the Caps winning another cup

Eichels wingers are Skinner Reinhart Hall....Cozen hardly scrubs. Buffalo's roster should have made them bubble team but they are losers lol plain and simple

Kuzy was not good overall in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. He's been better this year overall, I agree. He's been less flashy, but more even in his performance (probably due to being off the coke).

I still think Eichel is better, and with Ovi at his LW...my God. The bottom line is this: does giving up assets for Eichel move the needle enough to be worth it? That's debatable. Even for me, of course.

Is there a way to keep Kuzy and acquire Eichel as well? I would think not with the extremely tight cap. How insane would that be though?

Eichel is better but add cap and Eichels lackluster ability to carry ....ill take Kuzy. ive seen what him at100% can do
