Offseason Oilers

Created by: Duggysdanglers
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2021
Published: Apr. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think Zach Hyman hits the market this summer. I think he gets money and term especially if he performs in the playoffs but I could be wrong. He’s been a plus player for his career. Great underlying stats.
I think Holloway either goes back to the NCAA or the AHL mainly because of his injuries recently.
I think they should target Sebastian Cossa with their first round pick this year. Huge 6’6” & 212 lbs from Ft Mack. Dazzling stats with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Caleb Jones to Seattle is easy to stomach.
Broberg is very likely in the NHL next season.
Assuming Klefbom fully recovers otherwise they have more money to spend on Barrie.
How accurate are these UFA deals? I think LGD has jam left in his game and a connection with KH might be enough to lure him in.

No way he would join the Oilers. He will stay in Toronto, as he already refused to join the Panthers, and let us be real, Edmonton is kind of an unatractive franchise because they don't go anywhere with two of the best players in the league and their track record of bad management

The Oilers surrounding cast is steadily getting better all the time and Holland is a fantastic GM. But yes Hyman will likely stay in Toronto. I’m sure they make room for him.

The Leafs don’t really go anywhere with their top players either.

I agree with you basically. And this is complaining on a high level, but in my opinion Jesus McDavid and Leon Draisatel must invest more in their defensive game to actually get things done. Both don't really work close to hard enough without the puck. I was saying the exact same thing about Mitchy Marner (I am not sure if he improved enough yet).

But yes. I'd trade anybody other than Matthews to keep Hyman. What a guy he is

I think we will see lots of roster improvement next season with the extra cap space.

not sure if that should be the ambission of a team that drafted in the begining of every round for almost 100 years and who has some of the best players in the league. I'd even go that far to say that McDavid is the 2nd best player in the league

Too much for nuge, especially the way hes been playing as of late. Give nuge 5.5x5 and give yamo 4x8(4 milx8years) I also don't see Hyman leaving the leafs as much as we'd like to have him I don't see it happening. Other than that its great.

No. Matthews is a solid player, but not the best. In my opinion Nathan MacKinnon is the best player in the league. As an ok goal scorer and passer, but also has great energy, works all over the ice and can also bring in some physical play if he has to.

I love MacKinnon too but it’s tough to surpass CM.

What kind of comment is that? Do you really think the other divisions are better? The Honda divison has 4 ****ty teams, the Mass has 4 ****ty teams, and the discover has 1 ****ty teams.

Plus, there is a cap to protect teams such as the Islanders from the Leafs or Habs dominating the league.

I think you really overrate some of the teams in your division

I could be wrong, but didn't your last two captains leave the Isles as UFAs because .....

well, you don't play for the Islanders if you can get as much money and opportunity elswhere

yeah totally, maybe Toronto over Pittsburgh, but the Islanders and the Capitals would beat the Oilers and the Jets any day.

If the divisions were normal this year the Pacific would look like this:
    Team - Point %
    Vegas - 70.7
    Edmonton - 64.6
    AZ - 50.0
    SJ - 48.8
    LA - 46.3
    Vancouver - 47.3
    Calgary - 46.4
    Anaheim - 38.4
I’d bet only top three make the playoffs. I get it these numbers are skewed quite a bit but I think the Oilers are second round bound in this scenario. And I think they’re headed to the second d round this year as well.

Idk when it comes to the playoffs you need grit and d and goaltending. Its a lot harder for your stars to carry you in the playoffs than the regular season.
