Trying the Flyers Again

Created by: bluspy88
Team: 2021-22 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2021
Published: Apr. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Curious what Chicago fans think of 1.) the very idea of trading Murphy and 2.) what the return should be like. I just used Hagg and a 3rd as an example based off the Montour trade, but I am willing to believe the price is different and I don't want to just be a homer that thinks a random dude and mid round pick will get a solid player for nothing.

Given where Chicago is and is going, I don't think Murphy is a defenseman Chicago can give up. He plays top minutes every night, and we honestly don't have anyone to replace him at this point. We're loaded with young, offensively minded d-men, none who can shut down yet. Kieth, who is still over-all our best guy on the backend can't defend like he used to, Murphy can, and he's still young enough, without a high cap hit, to be apart of our "rebuild."

Not say Murphy isn't tradable, we just don't need cap space badly, and there are players who'd be smart to move well before Murphy. Again, we can't replace what he does. He doesn't make mistakes. de Haan and Zadorov sometimes do.

I am glad that you are open to constructive criticism because the return here is certainly not doing anything for Chicago. We have enough bottom 6 players, too much actually, and Murphy is our best defenseman and would most likely be extended even before trying to trade him for a good package. I would want a first-round pick for Murphy, or a top prospect and a pick, but even more than that I think we would look to extend him before trading him.

Yeah I was curious what CHI fans thought would be fair. I was going through teams and agreed with what you said and the person above said that you kinda need a Murphy around to play with Boqvist and Mitchell as they learn how to defend. I could honestly see the Flyers offering a 1st if that was the asking price since we are desperate. Maybe a 1st and someone like Isaac Ratcliffe, one of our B-tier prospects?

Again, I think we would listen in on Murphy, but it's much more likely that we would extend him. (He doesn't really play with Boqvist and Murphy but is a reliable shutdown guy and that is valuable in sheltering those players).

I don't know how happy I would be as a fan if we traded him for a first and a prospect but it could be helpful if we think our rebuild is not progressing as well as we would have hoped.

Oh yeah I should clarify that I meant having him play on the team with them so that he's eating minutes and shielding them. I guess the end of the year will be telling too about the direction of the team.

Murphy has become one of those guys that has more value to the team than he would have in a trade. Hawks just don't have another Dman that does what he can do. With that said if the hawks got a 1st and Ratcliffe in a murphy trade I wouldn't be too mad about it. But it would set the team back a bit

Nice calls on Hagg and Murphy would be a nice add. In UFA theres a few other options as well for similar monies: Montour, Savard for two.

But overall a nice sane lineup with sane moves
