If it stops the bad Eichel to NY trades then sure.

It might be difficult to transition a player from wing to center

Wing is definitely the easier position to learn at the NHL level. Maybe let him have a little success before giving him more responsibility. It was a worthwhile conversation before he entered the league. Since he’s faltered, i don’t think it makes sense.

I actually do agree here and think that its best to trade for Eichel and keep Laf on wing but I thought it was an interesting discussion

also lol yeah a lot of these trades are painful to look at, people legit think trading our Bottom 6 is gonna get Eichel

In this scenario we move strome and gauthier gets a top 9 spot until pajuniemi makes the team

Is Laf's skating and defense strong?

Problem is laf might have to be included in any eichel trade.

It creates a bad reputation for Rangers fans even though some of them are good

Hes not a speedster but he gets to where he needs to go, and he looks aware out there even if the results seem lackluster

I don't think he'll transition into a center. But if he did that would solve all of the Rangers problems

Considering the Rangers go into next Season with Zibenejad, Strome and Chytil locked in...no need to worry about it for 21-22.

If his game shows a drastic improvement on the Wing next Season (much like Kakko), then maybe they can open the discussion as Zibenejad and Strome enter UFA status. For now, he can stay put.

Actually I do. He's a very bright player with good 2 way potential and a potential elite play driver. All qualities that are welcomed for centers. I would do it in a heartbeat. Not saying he should play C 100% of the time because that would be foolish but start giving him a few faceoffs every now and then while making him practice being a center

Yes. In terms of skillset, size, speed, whatever, he has all the tools to be a top line C in the NHL, which is a more valuable position.

PLD learned the position fairly late in his development. I believe he transitioned halfway through his draft year in junior.

The two obstacles here are

-the learning curve for a guy who has played W his whole life

-the fact that he doesn't get to learn it against lower competition. Zegras is getting a chance to transition back to C in the AHL before being called back up. I know the Rangers don't want him in the AHL but if he's going to change positions, it might actually be the smart thing to do.
