Description
So, just trying something different for next year in the hopes that MTL does well and goes deep in this year's playoffs and finds a way to keep Tatar & Danault to make another run in 2022 before Weber and Price take a step back.

My thought with the Drouin trade is the following; for the third year in a row, he started on fire but as subsequently gone ice cold (1 goal in last 30 games). This is a pattern and not just bad luck. Any great player finds a way to help his team win even when they don't put up points. Drouin is just not doing that. Anybody saying different clearly is biased and is not watching the games. By trading him (instead of getting Seattle to take him), it means that we get something in return instead of nothing. In the trade below, the main piece for me is Tyler Benson. I figure that Edmonton would have to pay Seattle too much to have them take Neal as they would have Caleb Jones, Kyle Turris as more viable options in my opinion. The picks and Ylonen are to ensure Oilers send us Benson.

Once Habs have Neal, we send the below extras to have Kraken take him instead of Allen or Chiarot. It may be given a lot but I think it would be worth it to keep our backup and Chiarot.

Benson is practically a point-per-game player in the AHL and has only played 7 games in the NHL. Not sure why he hasn't been given an opportunity yet. But his size and scoring ability (at least in the AHL) would be a great add for Habs on LW. We have plenty of RW's in the system.

I know I'm close to the cap but my thinking would be if Benson and Caufield perfom well, with a fourth line of Byron/Evans/Armia, Lehky becomes expendable and could be traded early in the season allowing us to bring up Poehling. If Benson struggles a little then Toffoli moves up, Byron moves up and Lehky draws in.

It would be the same scenario with Caufield. If he struggles, Armia moves up and Perry draws in.

I think it's a pretty balanced team from top to bottom. Four solid lines and a tough D-core to play against. Gustafsson provides a really good security blanket should Fleury struggle early or we get injuries.

What do you think?

Why not keep the picks and prospects, avoid having to pay to give Neal away. Give Drouin to Seattle, add a 2nd rd pick at most. He’s still young and might fit well in Seattle.

If I'm Ron Francis ill take Allen unless you really sweeten it for Drouin. Granted I'm a Drouin Hater always have been.
