    Because the offer sheet mechanism always takes the total $ and divides by 5 years (if the contract is for longer) for the purposes of calculating draft pick compensation.

    9,000,000 x 6 = 54,000,000
    54,000,000 / 5 = 10,800,000

    BTW, it's a NO from Edmonton. Neal can be bought out for just $1.9M (if he doesn't get put on LTIR due to post-COVID health complications) and Koskinen is a very good 1B goalie who has just 1 year left on his deal. They aren't trading those guys AND A 1ST for the worst contract in the league.
