2022 new contracts for everyone

Created by: Wreckless
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2021
Published: Apr. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Weber’s and Price’s contracts are up in 4 years, so 4 year deals all around. everyone’s up for new deals at the same time, more money (cap hit) to go around, then (for those who will still be playing).

Obviously, in the end, the contracts won’t all be the same at 4x$4mm, but at least we’ll have a full 82 game season’s worth of data to properly (or at least better) dole out the respective cap space to each.

That's a whole lot of team friendly deals right there. Evans not getting a raise? Suzuki will be a 3 x $6 candidate if he picks up his production even slightly. I could see it for cotton candy, but even still, that's a pretty bad deal for all of these guys to take.

Edit: Stupid autocorrect. Kotkaniemi, not cotton candy.

I think he’ll play as long as he’s able to contribute. Nashville probably has to trade for him to incentivize him to go on LTIR instead of early retirement in that case though. Otherwise they get a massive cap penalty, really through no fault of their own though, it’s Philly go signed him to his 13 year deal. they had no choice but to match it.

If Weber is eligible for LTIR I'm sure he would just go on it, he gets his money that way. If he retires he gets nothing - so I don't see any scenerio where NSH trades for Weber to try convince him to go on LTIR, the incentive is already there.

The incentive for the Habs wouldn’t be there (as he’d tie up cap space). But this is a hypothetical for the team and player years down the road. I see him being useful well into the future.

If he is eligible for LTIR then his cap hit to the habs is zero. If he isn't eligible then he likely retires before the 2023-24 season. Either way it is of no consequence to MTL.

There are lots of quirks with LTIR rules that are worth paying attention to. 1) Not being able to accumulate cap space. 2) Performance bonus overage. Etc.
So, no, it’s not correct to say “of no consequence.”
