Flyers need a 3C Top 4 RD and a top 6 goal scorer

Created by: Dmh1055
Team: 2021-22 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2021
Published: Apr. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hoping for in-house fixes. Not unreasonable if the offseason and training camp are more back to the players usual habits.

Savard is the big UFA addition. Stepan is a solid 4th line veteran addition with a hope maybe he has more to give. A 1 year shot in the dark. I like Stepan's upside especially given the uncertainty for what Frost or Patrick will be able to provide. Rittich should be an upgrade over an aging Elliott.

No chance Seattle takes gostisbehere. Philly will be leaving too many good forwards exposed.

Out of curiosity, which forwards do you see the flyers protecting?

I disagree on Gostisbehere. There's a few factors. He has only 2 years left on his contract. His total salary is less than his cap hit for both seasons. He's also playing well of late while partnered with Hagg or Morin. He has defensive zone coverage issues and should be better at breakouts for such a skilled offensive defenseman. That being said over an 82 game season his pacing is set for 20 goals and 18 assists. I doubt any team is leaving an offensive defenseman exposed with that type of production.

Finally, the Flyers are leaving Voracek and JVR exposed. They are quality players who are overpaid by a million or two with 2 and 3 years left on their contract respectively. The cheaper options to select from the Flyers is Hagg or Aube-Kubel.

Out of curiosity, what forward do you see Vegas taking in the expansion draft without sweeteners?

Gostisbehere is the pick over Voracek. JVR over Voracek. Tight between JVR and Gostisbehere. I'd guess they pick Gostisbehere also....

This seems reasonable, but for some reason I find it amusing that there's $17M on the fourth line lol.

It is amusing. They're difficult to find a line for on the same team. I don't think they pair off very well together. They can certainly be used as a sub on other lines in offensive situations and obviously on the power play. I just think for this team to move forward they need to have their roles lessened. The same can be said for Giroux but he's a bit more effective in all situations as a wing. His role too needs to be lessened. Unfortunately, the team is saddled by 3 very large contracts for talented players that are not talented enough. They are not game breakers in their career. For JVR and Voracek they may never have been.
