Probably the wrong team for Manson. That's a lot to give up for a 5th-6th dman...

There is no scenario where Terry isnt protected, not even in consideration to be exposed regardless of any moves we make

Henrique, Milano, Shattenkirk, Mahura, Larsson would be the most likely players we lose to SEA

Agreed. The team that Manson is most valuable to at this point is the Ducks. There's not a huge point in trading him at this point. The key players that most likely would have been interested in him at the deadline were all teams where he ends up further complicating their expansion draft plans, and potentially just turns into rental this year (before being picked by Seattle), which further lowers his value.

At this point, the Ducks might as well keep him and use him to ease Drysdale's early-career usage.

I disagree. Seattle likely takes Dumba in the expansion draft. Manson, IMO, is his replacement.

Allow me to facepalm this. Don’t get me wrong, I see your reasoning but Guerin won’t leave dumba exposed to Seattle. If he doesn’t get a trade he likes for dumba he’s going 8-1 which then means greenway will be the Seattle sacrifice. Plus the wild have mennell and Addison who are both in house dumba replacements. So this trade has pretty much no chance of happening.

I just think that teams shouldn't worry too much about losing one player. It's one guy. Let Seattle take him, move on, and get Manson. Addison or Menell will make the team regardless of that move, and if either of them impress beyond expectations, you can let Manson go and use the cap space for a good forward. If they need more time, then you can extend Manson for a few years as a stop-gap.

You’re entire argument is predicated on “throw away dumba, a 1st and a 2nd round draft pick because...... reasons” or am I missing something here?

What you're missing is that some of the very worst Vegas Expansion Draft moves made were when GMs were over-protective of certain players leaving. It's how you got atrocities like Marchessault and Smith for a 4th, or Haula + Tuch + pick for nothing...to me, if Seattle takes Dumba, so be it. It's one player. Fill in needs during the rest of the offseason. Hence the Manson deal.

If wild lose dumba, you are forgetting wild have calen Addison, menell, & ian Cole coming back

Carson soucy being moved into top 4

Please research wild before saying this

Ian Cole wants to re-sign? If so, that would help them if they lose Dumba. I had Addison and Soucy making up the bottom-pair in my Minnesota thread. If Cole re-signs, you could probably move up Soucy to play next to Brodin full-time.

Yeah Guerin is planning to resign Cole

I'm going to disagree with the other Wild fans here and say I'm fine with Guerin exposing Dumba. It really would sting if we lost him, he's huge in our locker room and a very good player that I think gets unfair flak at the national level, but losing him means we free up $6M in cap space for the next two years which we'll need for Fiala, Kaprizov, Ek, Greenway, Hartman, and possibly an upgrade at center.

All that being said, adding Manson makes little sense. Even without Dumba, our blue line is still really good. Brodin and Spurgeon are both very much top pairing players, Suter has slowed a bit but he's still good #3. Last spot would likely be a revolving door of Addison, Soucy, and maybe Cole if we re-sign him. The hope is that Addison can grow into that role full time and from what we've seen he looks capable of doing that. I just don't think it would be smart to use picks/prospects on a spot that's not really a need when we have probably the worst center core in the entire NHL.

I'm off the Wild 8 + 1 train (my original thought). Having Jordan Greenway become this expansion draft's Alex Tuch is a little too much to risk, especially since it lands on the same team. I'd protect Parise (NMC), Zuccarello (NMC), Eriksson Ek, Fiala, Foligno, Greenway and Hartman; Rask and Sturm are the necessary qualifiers. Losing Dumba is bearable for the reasons set forth by @Tansor. But first, Guerin should talk to Arizona about that third slot open for a defenseman . . .

Not a chance Terry is exposed. Him and Ricky are the only two forwards I'm remotely concerned about losing for nothing. This kid is finally finding his rhythm at this level, what a waste it would be to expose him.
