arizona should not trade a high upside 2 way center for another overpaid defenseman

The kicker in this trade is Blackwell. He IMO could really boost Arizona's offense.

So Blackwell is worth a 5th overall pick?

For production relative to cap hit, plus a likely extension? IMO, yes.

No way Arizona does the NY trade. And no way Trouba waives

Trouba is over paid by 1M, Blackwell has been unreal. I think this trade could work with a pick, mid prospect going to ARZ. Looking at the players in the trade I tend to side with you, but seeing them fit into the lineup I actually think it works. But a 2nd or 3rd should be added. Or Gautier added. Trouba would never waive though so this is all moot

Yeah, I watch the Rangers games from time to time, and Blackwell has impressed me this season. He's been a true plug-and-play guy up and down the lineup and has been producing regardless of who has been on his line.

I’m sure in the summer we will all hear about how Panarin made him though. Just like the Strome ordeal

There were some rumors this offseason that Carolina, my home club, was inquiring about Strome this offseason during the RFA negotiations...usually if our FO is looking into a player as a possible trade acquisition, there's a good reason for it. Some folks need to actually watch the games before they go "bUt PaNaRiN" every time.

Of course, Blackwell is signed through next season at below the league minimum rather than an RFA, so a lot of those critics will be relatively silent.

If Trouba waived his NTC, the Rangers would accept in a heartbeat.

But Trouba will not waive his NTC.
