I’ll tackle the signings since others covered Hertl. Helleson and Weiss are going back to college. $8.5 on an 8 yr deal for Makar is wishful thinking, Chabot got $8M and Makar is significantly better particularly offensively. Travis Barron isn’t getting a contract Justin Barron is. There is zero need for Perrault with their young guys. What about Newhook?

unsign perrault and give the money to landy, that'll be closer to the contract he's taking.

Just cause so and so got this doesnt mean our players wont take less to keep a great team together. Also Makar hasnt shown he can actually stay healthy. 2 years in the league and injured both years.

Really that’s what you would go with. He is already widely considered at worst the 2nd best dman in the league. He is basically averaging a ppg. Outside of MacKinnon there is nobody as important as him. So you think just because he is on your favorite team that he is going to take in reality a discount on an 8 yr deal that is going to cost him between $12M and $20M. Comps are used for a reason, but just thinking h is going to take a discounted contract is silly. And if you don’t think every team in the league would offer him $10M on an 8 yr deal you are kidding yourself.
