We always need help on D and he would improve our D corps. I like White but not sure if he has a long term place in our top 9.
I think White has more of a long term role in Ottawa than Pettersson. White probably isn't a C in Ottawa after next year, but as it stands now, there will definitely be a long term role for him as a RW. I actually like him more as an RW tbh.
Pettersson on the other hand, probably isn't a top 4 D long term, 4mil on a guy who could be 3rd pair after one year just doesn't make sense imo. I think Jake Sanderson is probably NHL ready now, and he'll definitely be ready by the end of next season.
The Sens definitely need to make an improvement on the blueline, but I just don't think this is it. First off, I think the most important way you improve the D is by getting Zaitsev off the team. He's not an NHL Dman, and he gets run out there like he's Scott Niedermayer or something. Next, I think you need to add someone who can play the right side as either the 1st or 2nd pair guy. It's become extremely clear that Brannstrom is probably never going to do that under DJ, so they should focus on getting someone who can. I think Alec Martinez would be a target as a free agent. Ideally you find someone who can fit with Chabot, but if you end up with more of a 2nd pair guy, I think Zub is more than capable of being Chabot's guy next year. I think I'd be comfortable with letting Mete and Brannstrom fight it out for the 2nd LD role next year, though I'd probably prefer Mete with JBD to be honest.
