Holmstrom may turn out to be a dud. If I had to pick someone here would become a bust, it would be him. Foote could come to the NHL this season for a few games, but I think it's more likely they just wait and play him full time next season.

Broberg might get 9 games next year, but he's not arriving next season.

2022-23 season by the looks of things.

I think he might play 10+ games next season, but I wouldn't be surprised if the oilers give him a full season in the AHL first.

He didn't impress much in Sweden this year. Started out on fire but it seemed like after the Swedish National team mishandled his injury, he really faded last year. He's directly competing against Samorukov: if both men get 9 games apiece, whoever Edmonton has playing #3LD only has to play like three quarters of a season. If they resign Kulikov, he and Lagesson likely split that to some degree.

A full season in the AHL with what's looking to be a very strong Bakersfield team next year does him good.

I'm a bit concerned about Broberg because he still has only 13 points in 44 games this season in the SHL and no points in the playoffs yet, much below expectations. Just something tells me that he will get to play in the NHL for some time next season.

From everything I heard it stems from a combination of European coaches being very eager to "default to the veteran" and the shoulder injury he sustained in the WJCs. It's also well known that the SHL in particular is very particular about secondary assists and doesn't frequently hand them out. Traditionally, North American defenders on a similar developmental trajectory benefit more from how we dole out those secondary assists.

In his most recent interview Holland states that Broberg is North America bound next season. I just don't think it's rational to pencil him into an NHL role if its unwarranted. That's the kind of philosophy that made the Oilers famous for ruining prospects. Given how much money is going to be available to Old Dutch this summer, it's his golden opportunity to make this roster his own. There are good odds he looks to make a cup-contending team this summer: as the Oilers are currently constructed, this probably rules out a rookie defender being a full-time staple on the roster. Tippett won't even play Bouchard or Jones over some of his veterans. Broberg has a longer list of names in front of him. 9 games and then back to California; there's no shame in that.

I wouldn't worry. He's a young guy and the shl isnt the ahl. Its notba development league those guys are trying to win so young guys dont play as much.

He was a bad pick the day it happened, especially w Tomasino and McMichael going right after

Yeah I'm hopeful about it too, just it's more likely they give him a full season in the AHL first. He is a super talented player though, I loved watching him in the world juniors.
