Sabres after Eichel trade

Created by: Devil
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2021
Published: Apr. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Even though Sabres fans want a young future #1 center for Eichel, it's better if they don't get one. It might sound crazy but hear me out. If the Sabres get a great center prospect in return for Eichel, the rest of the deal might not be as good. The Sabres should wait until the draft and draft Matthew Beniers or Kent Johnson with one of their first-round picks. If the Sabres don't think Cozens could be a #1 center or if they want to move one of their centers to wing, they could get a #1 center in the 2022 draft. The Sabres will be bad in 2021-22 and there is a good chance they finish last. If that is the case, they are guaranteed one of Shane Wright, Brad Lambert, or Matthew Savoie.

This could be the Sabres future top 6

Imagine Buffalo drafting a top Dman this year and a #1 centre next year. They’ll be in pretty good shape, along with whatever they get back in an Eichel trade

I completely agree. If they play their cards right, they could have an underrated future. The only thing holding them back is their management imo.

If the Sabres move Eichel, their biggest hole is center then 2nd line winger(s), they will need a center back. Kakko and Georgiev are also overrated

This years draft is very light on centers.
Kent Johnson is a wing, Beniers more of a 2C

Almost makes more sense to trade Dahlin and draft d-man in 2021 draft. The difference between Edvinsson or Hughes and Dahlin appears closer than Beniers/Eichel

A top 3 pick next year gets them their franchise centre. A top 4 pick this year gives them a top Dman. And Eichel trade gets them 2 more top 6/ top 4 positions to fill plus picks

Or trade the pick lol, why would they trade Dahlin for an inferior Dman

They are getting Kaako back in the deal and they have Jack Quinn in the system. They already have Olofsson and Reinhart as wingers. They don't need a center back if they could just draft a center in 2022

I am saying it’s harder to find Eichel replacement in draft than it is to find Dahlin replacement.

Or Eichel requests a trade and you replace him with another center who could be as good as him and get more assets on top of that

    Not an enviable situation.
But I say if they trade one, trade them both
(Just send them outside the MassMutualEast)
    Otherwise, keep both

They should keep them both but Eichel will most likely want out. I don't think Dahlin wants out. Then trade Eichel and build around Dahlin.

Depends 100% on Ullmark or locking in a goalie. If they sign Ullmark and another equal goalie theyll be fine. 2nd need is a 2c with winger experience or a winger with 2c experience to help ease Cozens in. 3rd need is a gritty 4th line, not just recycling failed top 6 guys in

I don't think Ullmark wants to resign or he would have done it at the deadline. They get Georgiev to replace Ullmark and give UPL a shot
    2C would be Strome. He's a short-term option until they draft a center in 2021 or 2022.

Not true, Ullmark probably just didnt want to rush into a contract. UPL isnt ready but may get a look this weekend
