Sabres after Eichel trade

Created by: Devil
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2021
Published: Apr. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Even though Sabres fans want a young future #1 center for Eichel, it's better if they don't get one. It might sound crazy but hear me out. If the Sabres get a great center prospect in return for Eichel, the rest of the deal might not be as good. The Sabres should wait until the draft and draft Matthew Beniers or Kent Johnson with one of their first-round picks. If the Sabres don't think Cozens could be a #1 center or if they want to move one of their centers to wing, they could get a #1 center in the 2022 draft. The Sabres will be bad in 2021-22 and there is a good chance they finish last. If that is the case, they are guaranteed one of Shane Wright, Brad Lambert, or Matthew Savoie.

This could be the Sabres future top 6

They should just draft a Dman to play with Dahlin in 2021 then draft a center in 2022. No need to trade Dahlin

They have a Dman to play with Dahlin in Borgen...more of a stay at home Dman that was complimenting Dahlin till he broke his arm blocking a shot. He should be back next week I think.

I don't think Ullmark wants to resign or he would have done it at the deadline. They get Georgiev to replace Ullmark and give UPL a shot
    2C would be Strome. He's a short-term option until they draft a center in 2021 or 2022.

I think they must have made head way on a contract and agreed to hold off till the season was over or Adams would have traded him at the TDL.

    Sabres aren't trading eichel

What do you do if Eichel plays it smart, sticks it out to the end of next season then demands to be traded.

    1. Buffalo loses control bc his NMC is about to kick in or does kick in
    2. If it goes to the TDL Buffalo's position is still weakened bc trading him is not a TDL trade bc of the cap unless it's a team like LA who will have the cap space
    3. If it goes to the off season again Buffalo's position weakens bc teams will stall till his NMC kicks in...you know Boston will be his choice
    4. The return goes down if it goes to the next off season
    5. Only saving grace is they don't have to trade him bc he is under contract but do you then want a player that would probably become a cancer in the dressing room

The guys tired of losing, and I can't blame him there...I think if you are going to trade him and have the control to where he goes and get a maximum return you pull the trigger this summer or you get the same result as you did with Hall who controlled the situation and then cry on what the return is

TheFourthPeriod: Ullmark plans to test free agency. He hasn't ruled out for resigning with the Sabres in the offseason.

In the offseason he has all the leverage in the world. He could force the Sabres to give him a big contract or he could just test free agency. Sabres want to keep him which is why they didn't trade him. But he might not want to stay

Exactly what I was thinking. Boston doesn't have many valuable assests they want to give up. If Eichel wants to go to Boston, the Sabres would get a bad return

If Eichel says he doesn't want to play for the Sabres anymore, the management wouldn't tell him to "tough up". He's been there for 5 years and is tired of losing. If he doesn't want to play for the Sabres', they have to trade him while his value and demand is high.

Then he showed he shouldn't have signed an 8 year contract that doesn't have a nmc. He can play or not play. He has no leverage in a trade.

He could have did what matthews you did in Toronto, take a term that expires the year he is an UFA

What he should've or didn't do is of no meaning now...I still think once that NMC kicks in he asks out unless Adams does a masterful job this summer and turns this team into a playoff contender.

Sure it does. Because he has no leverage. You tell him tough ****. He can play or sit out.

Back in the day you could do that but I don't think that works with the players nowadays...Dubois went out and stiffed Columbus and forced a trade. Jack would become a cancer in the locker room. I'm interested to see how this all shakes out but I will stand by my thought he waits til after the TDL or summer and then he is in control

I agree but I just don't think that's what Adams would do...this team isn't going anywhere the next couple of years so get a haul and move on and let a bunch of young guys grow together.
